  • To the guys who get 600ks

Out of one tank, when does the fuel warning light come on for you guys? A bit under 500ks? Or under 600ks? Theoretically I've calculated that I should be able to get 600ks on one tank, but the needle hits zero and the warning light comes on at about 470ks.

    heya,

i've got a 2004 golf gti and my warning light usually comes on around the 580-590km mark. i can usually push it to about 610km or a little more, depending how often you take it to the red line!

yeah so 470km doesn't sound right at all! am no expert so can't advice you on possible causes but would definately take it in to your workshop to have it checked out. let us know how it turns out! good luck!

The pogo's have a small tank, about 45L off the top of my head, but when the needle is on zero, you actually have about 5L reserve left in the tank (if you fill up, it will take about another 40L to fill up), so that extra 5L could theoretically give you another 50 odd km's.

and if memory serves the golf has a 55L tank so thats 10L more to play with so getting 600ish sounds about right whilst the polo gets about 500ish

            My first 2 fill ups i got 380 and 360, about 10.2 - 10.5 / 100 k's.

admittedly i was fanging around everywhere showing off the chip performance to everyone i could find.

120k's in and its running about 9.5 this fill up, with a little fanging... but i'm over the show off stage and i think 450 is going to be what i'll be hitting from now on.

Yeah i get between 410 -450 km a tank around town. On the open road though i got from Brisbane to Tamworth in a tank. So around 600km.

geezz... I only get 400 if that....and that's driving like a nanna! Trouble is, is that it takes me around 10 or so days to use a tank... the longest tip I do in a week is 12kms.

I found with a couple of mods (3" downpipe, chip, air intake) my fuel consumption actually went down!

I can easily get 650+ kms to a tank if I don't fang it around and my car is a little heavier than the polos! (Although my car has a 55L tank)

My first 2 full tanks I've squeezed 500+ k's out of it which i reckon is pretty good for a 1.8 ltr turbo in mainly city/freeway driving. Warning light always seems to come on about 70-80 k's from empty in mine..

                      600 kms

I only get a couple hundred kms out of mine

but i only drive it on weekends, and i dont drive it particularly hard either (sometimes)

oh well must just be my driving style which makes it use alot of fuel.

                        DAMMM you guys..

How the hell do you get those numbers out of a tank.

The most I can remember I have ever got out of a tank , and that's almost running it to empty, was like 520ks.
But on almost every other occasion, I fill her up when the light comes on, and that at 350-380ish ks..

My fuel con is approx. 10ish, I can't drive it easy, but at the same time I don't drive it that hard all the time.
                        Please define HARD??

As my definition my be a little different to most of you.

As mentioned on this forum before - the 1.8T tends to drink a fair bit of fuel when cold (10+L/100km), and quite little when on the freeway (6-6.5L/100km).

If you do lots of shortish trips in the city, your consumption in the GTI is going to be a LOT higher than someone who commutes 30km on the freeway to work every day.

I suspect this might at least partially explain the big numbers some people get, but not others. If your car is a low km example (ie not run in, or barely run in), also expect higher numbers.

My average consumption has only recently dropped below 10L/100km (by the trip computer). It's dropping quite quickly though - i suspect it'll end up somewhere in the high 8s/low 9s, reflecting the mainly city-based driving I do.

My consumption has been an average of 8.5L/100km everytime I fill up.
