  • Clunk Noise

hi guys. i have just encountered my first problem with my car.its a 07 pologti and ive had it for about 3-4 months now. When i turn corners sharp/quickly or go through rounderbouts fast i can hear this weird kinda clunk noise coming from the front of the car. Anybody here experience this noise before?
Should i take it back to the dealership and let them have a look at it to find out what is causing this noise?

thanks any help or comments appreciated.

Could be they didn't remove the suspension spacers from the boat ride over, it's happened before. Why would you not take it back to the dealers?

Was thinking the same thing -- it's happened before. Have a good look to see if there's anything in the front spring coils...

      Otherwise, back to the dealer...

Yes it happens my plastic shipping blocks were left in the front springs, (Yellow)
Makes short travel on the front very hard up curbs.

And the dealer was a bit red faced

Have a look here, from about 5th post down http://www.vwwatercooled.org.au/newf...?t=2693&page=3

The front end clunk is apparently a common prob on our cars, with no official fix available. I have had shockers replaced but to no avail. Maybe steering rack etc, or bearings/bushes, dunno. But if your clunk is the same clunk, you may have to live with it ...

            Well either ...

... I'm not fangin' it fast enough through the corners (a possibility) or the 06 models didn't have that complaint.

I get a pretty horrible sounding series of clunks from the front end when one wheel lets go under power on an uneven surface, particularly bad accelerating over tram tracks which I now avoid
I figured it was just the traction control fighting for grip, as the ABS under hard braking makes a pretty horrible noise too - juddering and clunking, which is normal for ABS as far as I know.

That's called axle tramp...pretty poor to get it in a car in 2007, but yes, the Polo axle tramps

Actually, there is a lot of potential movement in the front end. Look at the amount of movement you can physically create with the front wheels sometime when your car is up on a hoist. Beats me how there's any fixed caster or camber in that set up
