Took the Polo to Winton last monday, did a few laps with an onboard camera. Not real fast laps (I'm a learner!) and the first bit is slow cos I was behind a slow porsche, but the sound of the motor is good once I got past! A LOT of fun!
Polos just got a chip and rear sway bar.
Heard mention of body roll on the forum, but I've never really noticed it, on the road or at the track. The rear sway bar did a lot for the handling, really nice neutral drifting on corners rather than pushing the front wide. Overall the car felt great. Weakest link seems to be the tyres which are the standard road dunlops which came with the car. Everything else, no problems. I think some race-specs would add to the fun!
heres a pic at turn 4? at Eastern Creek - no body roll (no sway bars) - but good spring rates & good dampers. Car is dead neutral - no understeer - no oversteer. Its a really well balanced little car!
Hey Guy, you dont have any aftermarket swaybars on your Li'l Red Monster?
Sure looks like it enjoys corners! Pr'aps I should just save up for springs and shocks. (and rubber and turbo and LSD and...)
with my springs and swaybars fitted the car feels SOLID, predictable and safe through corners.
much more balanced and understeer is VERY hard to induce.
Also, i havent had any oversteer. Ive tried a bit of lift off oversteer but the rear end has alot of grip too and esp is always left on.
