Yeah, I reckon there was the 1.4 TDi. A 3 cylinder thing.

Not that I am aware of. There was a 1.9 non turbo diesel in the MK4 Polo

dam, so there is no real chance of a less complicated engine swap....

or will the 1.9tdi out of the mk3 Golf be relatively uncomplicated to drop into a 97 Polo?

VW reckoned that the big block 1781 and up motors won't fit in the 6N but there have been countless VR and 1.8T conversions since that comment was made.

Time and money will be your only enemies on that score.

true, have any tuning houses in europe made conversion kits?? like hotrods?? where you can buy engine mounts and the like and it ends up being just a drop in job.

I reckon that you would find mounts from somewhere in the VW range that would do the job without too much trouble.
Make sure you pick a car to modify that has the same family engine as you intend to fit, that would make it easier.

that it would... but life wasnt meant to be easy...
the best part about the Polo is its just 100kg's heavier than my mk1 and its modern, to bad about the engine it has in it one of volkswagens worst moments.

What do they have over here? I am sure I have seen the 1400 16V which did 100hp I think. That wouldn't be too slow. Even the std 8Valve 1400s I have been in are pretty nippy.

i'd be happy with the 1.4 16v... but my car has the 1.6 8v which has less power than a standard mk1 1.6 8v and its redline is at 5500rpm, really is quite gutless and its power dilivery doesnt suite the characteristic of the engine... it was VW's attempt to make a petrol motor with diesel characteristics.

maybe the answer is a 1.4 16v??? are they tunable, is there some stuff out there for them, 100hp in my thing would definately put a smile on my dile.
