    Help Please..

Got a nice problem and help to fix

Hi all I was driving home today when all a sudden I went to hit the brakes and a massive BANG noice came from the front end, the stearing hooked.
It seemed to get worst as I drove it.
I managed to get it home and jack her up.

This is what I found –

Here is a vid - This is what was happening when I moved the wheel back and forth..

If anyone can, can you confirm that this is the lower inner control arm bush?
    Has anyone had this problem?
Also does anyone have the part number or is there an aftermarket version they could recommend?

    Any help would be appreciated,

There is lots of threads on this topic
It is a common fault, well they have wearing issues

It is the rear bushings on the control arm
PM Jmac, I PM'd him the other day, he can get different ones, not sure if they are the TT solid ones or seat bushes

      Thanks man,
The pix are from the front ones, I just need to know if they are called Lower control arm bushes or WishBone bushes.
I will ring around tomorrow to see if I can get any, they don't have to be aftermarket ones either.

Hmm depends how much you know

I have been told you need a good press to get them in, so maybe take the arms somewhere where they can press the bushes in

I will be doing it myself, you also need to torque the bolts etc

Thanks man, anyone know what the the Torque settings are.
I know enough to do it myself and have all the tools ect..., It's time that I don't have.

So if anyone has done it and can give some advise that would be great,

              Thanks again.

I think someone did this just last week them selves, have a look in the 'what have you done' thread.

The Stock ones are prone to failiure, I've got the Whiteline ones which are a urethane sorta thing, the Seat ones (Jmac may have a set) are rubber from memory (soild, not the strange perforated design) and have been installed on quite a few Polos.

Hi all, just to let you know that I called both white line and Pedders and neither have them listed.
The part numbers on the websites are for the rears only, and I was told that the fronts are in development.

Anyway, I had to bite the bullet as I need the car on the road ASAP so I called VW and got one off them for $27.
I'll be spending this evening and prob tomorrow doing the repair..
                  Wish me luck.

Jmac installed the solid SEAT bushes for me and I've had no dramas since. You will more than likely have to replace the stock ones again.

                    Cheers,

Hit up Jmac, who can organize the full solid rubber Cupra R bushes for you for a hell of a lot cheaper than the whiteline items (most of us here use those).

My bushes were just as bad as yours after only 44k on the clock... they really just don't last. Also, you might find your drop links need doing as well to remove all front end knocks (again, Jmac can hook you up there too)

                        Thanks Guys,

As stated I need the car on the road, as it's my lively hood and I do not have time waiting for bushes.
I have already pulled the C/Arm and cassing off, and taken the old push out.
Just waiting for my neighbour to get home so I can use his press to put the new one in.

As long as I can get another 20-30ks out of it I'll be happy, as I'll be selling the car next year.

Thank again for all your help, I'll let you know how I go.

they are not that bad to replace. i did mine last week. My drivers side bush had torn and would knock like crazy.

if you have the right tools its easy to replace. i fitted the cupra R bushes to mine and so far the car feels great.

Torque setting i used was F/T. ive marked the bolts and i will recheck them in the next few weeks to see if they moved or not. so far there no unusual noise

                            Thanks for your help all.

all i can say is whether you install the original ones or uprated ones you must do the torque right, RENEW the bolts and ANGLE torque the NEW TORQUE TO YIELD BOLTS, im sure ive exhausted the point fellas and there is a VERY good reason i have.MOST of the susp shops and dealerships, sorry i worked in many but the guy teaching me was Yoda as far as im concerned amd i feel the force when working n your car. Replace the bolts and make sure when you do torque the torque to yield bolts the supension is PRESSED!!!!!!!!!!!!! cant stress enough guys.So it might have seemed easy fitting standard bushes but by the looks you have used the old bolts so you are a mile away from having it right
Sorry trying to help and saving you the same job in 10ks time, and if you use the OEM you will for sure
                              Cheers
                              Jmac
PS please read up on how to install bushes, not as easy as it seems, yes the fit and press in ok , its the finished article that counts and lasts!!!
Also one last one the search function works wonders here
