the adaptor from VW is around $360 installed. I've got a belkin one that runs through the radio for the time being and it's adequate. Around the city it come drop in and out occasionally. You may have one that plugs in via the headphone socket, they are crap, you need one that charges as well, sound quility does not compete with CD and even radio can sound better than it.

I haven't had any experience myself, but from memory a number of people here have used the 'Connect2' iPod adapter to good success. From memory it's around $120 for the unit itself, which needs to be ordered from Europe... then you're looking at ~1hr labor at your local audio shop (should be about $80) to get it installed.

I have the Connnect2 unit (I think its that one).

Connects to the rear of the Radio Unit, then you can connect a Minijack connection (headphone style) in a relevant location. The input is selected by pressing the CD button as it acts as a CD stacker.

To get the headunit out you will need the little keys that latch into the face of the unit to pull it out. The rest is pretty easy, but if you are not good with that sort of thing, best to get someone to do it for you...

Definitely not, they normally hire terrible installers.

Go to your local specialist car audio shop. In Sydney, the place I'd recommend the most is Fhrx Studios. Marty who runs the joint has won just about every SQ award there is in the Australian car audio scene.

I would recomend you buy the unit off ebay, get a 2 x RCA to Minijack audio cable from Jayar / JB-HiFi / ETC and find someone who has 1/2 a clue.

Should take 1/2 an hour, just need to decide where you want the ipod audio cable to be (I've got mine directly below the stereo system in the little tray down there...

Everything in this thread confused me?

I was offered a original volkswagen ipod adaptor thing for $150.. Should i get it? Brand new in the box.. Also how do these things work?! IF i were to take my car to volkswagen can they install it?

Jess, what is the original one? Does it charge the Ipod? Does it give you control of the tracks from the CD player?

If its all too hard, maybe the dealership is the easy option.

This one is only $55, looks pretty easy to install (if you're able to get the head unit out that is).
