Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • BBS Wheel Question...

    Hi All,

Haven't had much intrest in the car for sale however, I have been presented with a to pick some BBS RS wheels up cheap...

Do you think that a 16x8 +20 wheel would fit on a Polo?? The offset calculator on 1010tires indicates that there will be 1mm less internal clearence but a large-ish 37mm extra outer clearence. My measurements would indicate that +37mm on the outside would be close, but not impossible to fit with a bit of tyre stretch...

Has anyone else fitted this combination to a Polo before or know of someone who has?? Will be running 205/45 tyres

If they are cheap and in good condition, grab them.

You can always sell them for a profit if nothing else...

you can run at +20 fine, I was running +19 in the back on H&Rs .

might have to bend the screw tab in the front arches back though if you run 205s and are lowered more than 35mm if you run 195s you'll be fine though.

I'm guessing +20 is after adptors or at 5x100?

you might be able to shave 5mm-10mm of the backing plates to give you a bigger offset too

Nah no adaptors, the wheels are 5x114.3 with an ET+20, so will have to get them re-drilled... Might go and check them out tomorrow and see if they will fit...
Just trying to imagine what a 205 will look like stretched over an 8" rim

205 on an 8 is not much stretch TBH, especially a 205/45. 195 would be better and scrub less depending on your sus setup

like Lornez said you'll have to go to 195s if you lower the car.

you sure your calculations are right? at+19 my rears only poked 13mm
