Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. • Weathershield & Arch Flares

    Forumers,

I've searched everywhere for a Polo GTI picture with weathershields. I want to see what it looks like, and also the arch flares if possible. I'm close to purchasing a Polo GTI, and no, this isn't the make or break, but I just want to see if it'll be worth purchasing.

The weathershields sometimes from the factory and nice and slim-lined, whereas some are thick and fat looking which is a no-no for me. I know it's serving it's purpose, but at the end of the day, personally, I would like for it to look half-decent as well.

Also, does anyone know about the arch flares? I saw a thread on here which said the GTI already have the flares arched, but was just wondering.

Does anyone have any links to any sites or better yet, on here.

    Thank you.

I can tell you that the weathershields are the slimline type, I've got them on mine.

    Here's a picture:

      Thanks for that, appreciate it.

Are they black or clear as it is kinda hard to tell.

The flared arches are from the Polo S2000 (rally version).

Other than the chassis, I'd think it to be a completely different car. Have not seen the arches for sale.

I think he is referring to the optional "flares"

I'm interested in the weathershields as well. Can you tell me where you sourced them?

I got my weahersheilds from VW. $55 the pair.

I'm gonna rip em off though. Too noisy for my liking.

                  Is the noise that loud?

Can you please let me know how they're noisy? Also, I was advised $70 for the pair. Getting jipped 'ere!

Paid $55 for mine from VW as well.

No noise from mine, even at highway speeds.

Those 'wheel arch flares' just look like the 'wheel arch extensions' that they had to put on the MKV Golf GTI when you optioned up the 18" rims. They're not really flares at all....

My GTI came fitted with weathershields... Ripped them off after a couple months due to the noise AND the fact they distorted the view out the side window near the A-pillar. Worthless with A/C anyway.

I don't find the air with the window down to be 'blowy'.

I usually drive with my window down, even when its raining (not too hard). If you are moving, the rain does not really come in. I guess the aerodynamics help.

When it's raining and I slow down or come to a stop the water drips in. Really annoying but if the weathershield is noisy then I might not bother.
