Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Fronts are 6", I assume the backs are the same.

6.5" can be made to fit without too much trouble, there are a few stereo threads on here with pics.

it doesnt realy matter because whatever you do if you remove the stock speakers you will need to use spacers to install new ones - the fronts are 6" and the rears are 5" - but they are built into som etype of plastic spacers that are pop rivetted into the aluminium door inner covers

i have replaced the front ones with 6,5" aftermarkets but ive had to make a spacer out of MDF otherwise you dont get enough depth for the magnets

      assembled spacer

spacer on door with speaker mounted

there are plastic spacers available but those probably would rattle and vibrate if you have strong speakers - so i suggest making your own out of MDF like i have done - and in that instance the minor differences in size dont really matter because the holes on the doors will be adequate for a 6,5" on the front and a 5,25" in the rear
