Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • 06 GTI Resenator and Hi-flow Cat

I've been reading up on the 06 having a resenator and also interested in changing to a better flowing cat.

I'm really not interested in paying for a full exhaust, but thought there might be a better sound and possibly slight gains to be had from these changes.

Can anyone comment on the flow restriction from the 06 middle muffler / resonator and possible change in the exhaust note if removed?

I have the APR Stage 1 V2 software, if I replace the cat, will I need any code changes? Is there power or flow improvements expected from this?

I had read about changing the cat to a XR6 Tubro or similar cat as they have good flow, and not paying the $$$ for something that is over-spec'd for my cars requirements. Any comments on this theory?

Mettams told me to not bother changing the cat...

They put in a 2.25" pipe from the cat back with a slim looking 'cannon' type muffler while still retaining the dual chrome tips (just bigger ones )

il get that video done for you and uploaded today....can't recommend it enough!
