  • 2010 Polo

    Hi all,

I was at the Austral VW open night last night and enquired about a new Polo. Apparently the new 2010 Polo is due here April.

The engines are completely different from what I am led to believe.

Has anyone spotted a report/test on the new 1.2L Turbo engine that will be available here?

    Thanks

    Pete

You have to love how far technology has travelled......

Aussies raised on the axiom that there is no substitute for cubic inches should drive VW’s new Polo. The fifth generation sub-Golf model debuts a brand-new 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol four-cylinder producing 77kW at 5000rpm and 175Nm from an amazingly low 1500rpm through to 3500rpm. Thanks to its 1010kg weight, the 1.2 TSI is good for 76kW/tonne, motivates itself to 100km/h in a claimed 9.7 seconds, and delivers official combined-cycle consumption of 5.5L/100km. For historical perspective, a 1980 4.2-litre V8 Commodore produced just 87kW (for 69kW/tonne), did 0-100km/h in 10.3sec and drank 16L/100km.

I beleive I read the plan for the Polo GTI was to put the 1.4 twincharger in, but with 136 odd kw, not 118 as per the current Golf. Now, that will be a weapon!

Oh, and end of 2010 if we are lucky.

It'll be here, the GTI made up a big chunk of the current polo range sales.

There was a thread floating around where one of the dealers said 125 kw from the twincharger.

at the end of the day it doesnt matter how much the GTI comes with from the dealer as anyone who buys one on here will ensure it gets a bit more vrooom

Which begs the question how far down will the new diesel drive economy?
Compete with the Ford Ecosl*tic, will it?

The Polo 1.6 TDI will have a lower fuel consumption than current Polo 1.9 TDI IIRC is around 5.0L per 100km on a combined cycle.
The BlueMotion Technology package available in Europe gets this nearer 3.8L per 100km on a combined cycle.

VW also sell the Polo BlueMotion which with the 1.2 TDI 3cylinder diesel has a very low fuel consumption of 3.3l per 100km on combined cycle.

                        3.3ltrs/100

So on the 40ltr tank we are driving to melbourne nonstop pretty much.

                        thats impressive fuel efficiency.

I'm keen to try out the new Polo GTI, if VW haven't dumbed it down like they did the MkVI Golf GTI, I'd be tempted to trade in my GT for one.

There are good opinions in some magazines about it, but they don't mention the GTI,

Hope this one doesn't have issues with the aircon.....

                            Cheers!

It'll be about 4.3L/100km. The Bluemotion version will be very similar in fuel use to the Econetic (3.7-3.8L/100km), but there isn't any word if that model will get to Australia.
