  • Polo GTI brakes to Club

    HEy folks,

you may have seen there is a set of rotors/pads from a GTI up for sale in the parts section from a 9n3 gti.

Will these fit a 9n3 club? I'm assuming the front end isnt that dramtically different between the two cars.

Furthermore would a swap to these rotors then a a new set of pads (have seen several suggested) be worth it.

    Cheers for any help.

I see no reason as to why they shouldn't!

My TDI can bolt the GTI brakes straight on

        brake upgrade

I would check that the wheels fit over the gti brakes - most things seem to be bolt up otherwise

Maybe you could ask a GTI driver near you if you could try and put your spare on as an experiment.

It should not be hard to find someone offloading some GTI brakes - I know that I will have a set sitting idle once I get my big brake upgrade done

            Awesome

How big are the brakes on the club? Is it much of an upgrade to GTI? (they don't run drums on the back do they?)

You should have no problems sourcing a cheap set of GTI calipers and carriers from this forum

yeah the club is drums at the back.

So by all accounts a rotor/caliper/carrier swap should be doable?

There really isnt that much to it I guess.
I'm running Audi brakes from a completely different model, I cant see why changing between a non GTI and GTI would not be compatible as long as they are going to fit over your rims. If you are running 17" VW wheels, they wont clash.

                  Other GTI bits

Not sure what your suspension setup is but you could score a GTI setup - I think that it is slightly lower (25mm) and firmer. I would personally add a rear sway this improved the handling no end in my opinion. More neutral, less understeer.

It should not be hard to source - I know that I will have spare suspension and brakes laying about in the not too distant future.

Thanks for the info guys. Eventually I would like to go to the gti suspension. I figure she ain't fast so I'll just have to corner, and with many gti owners upgrading brakes and suspension it shoudlnt be too hard to source parts.

Jmac my clubbie has drums on the back. Is it a difficult process going to th discs?

                      Cheers guys

The GTI suspension is not great, its not low either.
If its a cheap upgrade, might be worth it, my coilovers were not expensive.

The drums on the rear dont get a lot of use, many of us upgrading the front brakes are leaving the rears stock.

Discs on the rear are always a much better option than Drums.

From riding in a mates Pacific Polo the GTI suspension would be an improvement. Also, you should keep an eye on the For Sale forum in case anyone off loads low km GTI suspension after an upgrade.
