Creaking Noise From The Chassis

So I got the RSB, dog bone mount and the rear control arm bushes installed on Wednesday however a creaking noises have started to come from under the chassis. Happens when I'm in first gear and start to move, sometimes it does it in second gear but only at low revs.

Has anyone had any creaking issues after installing the dog bone mount or rear control arms bushes? Or is this sound just a normal wear in of the 2? I doubt that the creaking could come from the RSB could it?

Sway bars are attached with bushes. The bar can rub on the bush and be noisy.

Did you fit? Was the bar / bushes lubricated?

I find with the upgraded control arm bushes (I have Whiteline ones) that suspension noise is increaced through the cabin. You may find that you are hearing some noises that were there but have been amplified...

I got the APR dog bone installed by the APR dealer here, I got them to also fit both the RCAB (rear control arm bushes) and the RSB while he was under the car so I can't be sure that whether if he did. He's done a few of them before but so I'm sure he would've.

Although I can understand that the noise can be amplified I've never heard these noises. I just wanted to confirm what the noise could be. Because the noise was coming from under the front row seats my suspecions were that the joint that connects into the RCAB was trying to move and this caused the creaking noise. I've seen some videos before getting solid RCAB and it moves quite a bit. So this was the only thing that I could come up with.

I also did read that you drive about 100km and then check and retighten the RSB. I haven't done that yet so I the RSB could be the culprit. I'll let you know my findings.

i don't mean to sound silly but have you confirmed the sounds are not coming from the seats?

Rear sway is a classic for creak mate. The stuff supplied with the kit is pant im afraid. Drop it and re prime with Molycote high temp stuff. problem solved. Same goes for the front sways, never use the sachet they supply.

That was the first thing that came into mind. But not it's not coming from the seats.

Will try Jimmy, I knew you would come up with a solution. Fingers crossed this fixes my creaks.

Went back to Canberra Volkswagen Centre and spoke to Dean who put the pog back on the hoist and tightened the bolts that came off when they installed the dog bone and RCAB. Took it for a spin and fixed the problem. She's a whole lot quieter then before.

Sorry but dont like the sound of that, did you replace the bolts when the bushes were done???? They are angle torqued under load or pressed depending on your terminology, This is when the angle torque is used on the torque to yield bolts, they quite simply shouldnt have been loose AT ALL.

Now I'm a bit concered...

I gave them the bolts that you told me to purchase. But there was one part number that they couldn't find properly.

N10141801 x 2 - Control arm

Apparently there was another part number similar. The VW spare parts guy said that the bolts they gave me might have superseded the old part number.

Supersessions are common place but the numbers i gave are the superseded ones, not to worry, but the tightening procedure is the key, must be done pressed or the ratchet effect will loosen the bolts through time, but you only just had them done???

I had them done on Wednesday, I did a bit of "lively" driving on Wednesday and Thursday to "test out" the new parts. By Friday the noise just appeared. Thought it was the sway bars at first but the noise wasn't coming from the back of the car, more directly underneath.

I'd dare say that he might not have tighten them enough the first time. At least we found the root cause. Now that I know you gave me the part numbers for the superseded bolts if I have any more issues then I'll just buy and make sure that they give me the exact bolts you suggested.
