They go on the racks .. couldn't fit 2 in the car anyway, but even if I could, the mud and gunk you pick up on a mountain bike means it goes on the roof, hate the thought of having to clean that crap out from inside the car.

On a more relevant note - I was quite suprised to find I could fit my fixie (don't hate) IN my pogo. It only fits sans front wheel (w/o quick release >.<) but I don't have to remove the rear rack and I've got bullhorns which stick out like a b!tch.

Yeah my Trek MTB fits pretty snuggly (front wheel off/sometimes remove bike seat) when the back seats are down and with the front passenger seat fwd slightly, usually chuck a large old towel/sheet underneath. Pretty sure my mates R32 has the same style racks for his longboard, seem to work well. I think I may have even got 2 MTBs in there before? haha

The polo quite surprisingly can fit two mountain bikes in it with the front wheels off and seats removed..

I was so surprised when i saw that it fit. Took less than 5 minutes to squeeze them, just make sure the wheels are covered with some towels so they dont ruin your seats with mud or frictions etc

I can fit my Commencal Super 4 in with the front wheel off and the back seats down... Fits around the sub surprisingly but does get a it cramped. A good thread as I've been considering this for a while

I was quite concerned for a while as well before I bought my car.
I previously had a Daweoo Nubira station wagon which I could literally wheel my bike into, both wheels, no problem (this was the only positive about such a car, mind).
I actually had more trouble fitting my bike into a Ford Territory the other day!
Also worthy of an honourable mention (and Break will appreciate this) is the fact that my friends Cliosport can fit his bike with tri-bars in it and still take corners like a MF.

I just bought and fitted a Rola roof rack similar to Tooch's, with a fork-mount bike rack on it.
My MTB can fit in the car with the front wheel off, but as it has long travel suspension I need to fold the front passenger seat forward to fit it in, so no passengers!
I just did a run up the coast and with the bike on the roof I only noticed a small amount of wind noise and it was perfectly stable up to 150kmh (on closed roads of course!).
              Collected a few bugs, though!
150kmh - fastest mountain bike in the world??

Edited to add that the measurements in the instructions were not correct and do not line up with the marks on the door frame. This would have made the two bars too close together. Rear position was OK based on the marks on the window. I went with the VW measurements.

I fit my Giant Reign in the back no problems with the back seats down. Just have a big blanket i keep in the boot spread out over everything to protect from dirt and damage.
