Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

I picked my car up on a Saturday, then on a Sunday went for a cruise along Putty Road with about 15 MINI's. Drive it the way you want. If you baby it from the start it will never be as fast as it could be. Also engines these days do simulated km's in the factory so run-in is less of a problem as it used to be. Having said that, don't be stupid and bounce it off the limiter at very TLGP

This pretty much goes for all engines.

            Exactly.

I left mine approx 1000-1500kms(and no - i didnt FULLY baby it - I still gave the engine exercise). Then I've always given it a great run. However, dont start slamming it off the limiter every gear.

Be a normal person. Dont flog the sh*t out of it then turn it off while its still recovering.

If you wanna flog it, do it, just dont expect that your going to do a simulated Le Mans 24hours and expect it to last for a lifetime.

I flashed mine at approx 1000kms. Never had a problem.

A car is a car - they are very well designed from the factory and shouldnt be easily breakable!

Guy_H also had an interesting take on it too...

            Thanks
            Matt

                Thanks for the reply's PPL

I've pretty well driven it normal so far with a few quick runs here and there. You know to see how she goes , with a go slow ending to let it normalize temps before I parkup.

Every day it is further run in - I think that the process will never be complete!

A long trip with varied speed and load is the best way for the engine to settle in-if you run it hard, run it in hard!
