  • tyre presure light

hi guys while driving today the tyre pressure light came on , so i went to the servo and put 36psi in each wheel (they were down to like 28-30psi) anyway the light still didnt work so naturally i came here and did a search. i tryed holding down the reset button while the key was in the ignition and also while the key was one step forward (the one before you start the engine) and still no dice.
    anyone got any ideas?

i hold the button, put the key in and turn it to everything but ignition and wait for it to Bing, let go of the button, then start the car.

worked everytime for me (spent 2 months filling up a punctured tyre every week )

Ignition on and press the tyre button for about 1-2 seconds the light flashes once and goes out and bing sounds!, if not you have a issue, even if the tyre pressures are still incorrect on a polo it should still put the light out as it's just a basic system that gets the abs to look at the rotation speed of the wheels and that determinds if the light comes on, slower the rotation after the lamp is reset on one wheel means flat tyre so the light is put on the dash. Other models like touareg and passat have electronic sensors in the wheels and when resetting these ones the tyre pressures must be spot on the figures on the fuel flap or you will have issues, so basically look's like you have a issue if it doesnt go out at all, do you have any other lights on the dash like the traction light? Sometimes if there is a issue somewhere else like say the steering angle sensor then the tyre pressure monitor doesn't always play ball!................VW...........................

If there is no other idiot lights on the dash might be worth a terminal 30 reset ( basically a battery disconnect and reconnect)As mentioned its all established with the rolling radius, and ifs its not working properly it might need further investigation, via ABS ecu and measured blocks to see if all wheels are being read.

just been thinking,!! the rotation must be ok as if there were any faults the ABS light would also be on, so my conclusion is that the switch is duff! You will not have noticed that its duff because you will not of used it until now! The switch being inop will not cause any other faults with any other system. Faulty switch mate without seeing it......................VW...................

                    tyre presure light

I know they are a pain in the rse and that everyone will say to get them disabled but anyone know how to get the warning light off the dash?

Im fairly sure there isnt a puncture as the pressures are the same as the day before the warning light appeared and have been driving it a fair bit since

Have you tried resetting the TPMS ? The method is described in the owner's manual (and in some of the earlier posts in this thread).

Hey Shane, long time no here

I'm not sure how accurate the TPMS is, but I've had it work very well in the past, including once at Eastern Creek. Take the car to a tyre place and get them to submerge each tyre, see if you get any bubbles. If you don't then start looking at sensor problems.

I'd be interested to hear if a faulty TPMS sensor will throw a code Mike is you GTI still under warranty? I wander if they will replace all 4 sensors.
