  • What codename is the 1.8T in the 9N3 Polo GTI?

I was reading an old Golf+ from the UK (October 0 which had an interesting article on gaining more power from the 1.8T. It states that Pre 2001 1.8Ts were codenamed AGU and fitted with a K03 turbo and post 2001 1.8Ts were codenamed AUM and fitted with a K03S Turbo. The article goes on to compare the two and what can be expected int terms of BHP and what mods need to be done to gain various BHP. and covers the 4 versions released from the Factory (150 bhp, 180 bhp, 210 bhp and 225 Bhp).

I presume that the 1.8T in the Polo is the AUM K03S equipped version?

also the Article describes BAM & AUK designations for the 210 bhp and 225 bhp versions of the 1.8T.
I am thinking Audi S3 and TT. are there any other cars in Australia that were fitted with these engines?

Thanks Rosonic. What is the highest realistic power figure one can get from our 1.8Ts?

without internal work around 300-350hp though there have been cars with higher hp without internal work, though reliablity is always a concern.our pogs simply dont have the space so unfortunatly fitting larger turbos is just about impossable unless you do some major manifold refurb (cheack out plautos's thread) so that in minde a more realistic figure would be 250-300. with the internals done ive scene mark 4 golfs pushing 450-500hp with huge turbo set ups and water/meth . most of us here on the forums generally run anything from stock through to stage 3 setups with full exhaust, k04 001, fmic, and a minagery of other mods.

how long is a piece of string??

really depends on how big your wallet is.

more of a concern is driveability. the bigger the turbo, more lag etc, will make it less livable everyday.

as jarred said drivability is always a concern , as is getting traction. with thta much hp its hard for the lil pog to get the power to the ground unless your a real feather foot.

I don't think the Polo is the car you want to be trying to get big numbers from. The S3 is heavier, but being AWD is going to help you get any prospective power to the tarmac and also has a bigger tuning following - thus easier to get info and parts.

                          There are 30+ variants IIRC.

I believe the Polo's 1.8t is more or less identical to the AUM (Audi A3 2001 onwards) though. The mk4 golf GTI stuck with the AGU it's entire life cycle in Aus.
