New Polo GTI loud rattle then stalled

Just a weird problem with my new MY08 Polo GTI.

Pulled into the garage, just idling then a rather loud rattling noise then the engine stalled, gear was in neutral and clutch out. Honestly thought that there was a major problem with the engine.

However, restarted, everything ok has not happened since and is running well.

Any ideas? Bad fuel, glitch with fuel pump / ecu?

Internet troubleshooting is fraught with danger. I'd say have it scanned for faults, if it does it again.

Could have been the fuel vaporised in the lines if it is really hot outside?

It happaned to me a few time before, restart the car and it is all ok, it sounds like the clutch got stuck in gear when i change to neutral and the car stall...

Cant replicate the problem, it just happans...

Got dealer to check and cant found anything...

I had this happen a few times in my last pogo. It happens when you take off or try to creep forward with out enough revs. The engine labours and then makes a VERY loud rattling noise.

When it happens to me the car was in gear with out the clutch depressed yet the car wasn't moving so I assumed it was the clutch or something slipping.

I did the same as you...turned the car off and then on and it was fine...

Had one of these do this a while back, was bad fuel, never has shown up again

Thank you for all your replies, very helpful. Does sound similar to the clutch issue hkogti and callen described, especially the engine labouring and very loud rattle. Probably rare, and as suggested I will get it scanned if it happens again.
