The 10th digit on your VIN represents the MY - i.e. 6 is 2006, 7 is 2007, etc.
Thanks for that. The 10th digit is a 6. I looked in the boot too - built MAY 06, so it was sitting around for 7 months or so before I bought it (taking into account the travel of course!).
The ONLY date that matters to the buyer is the build date.
Not always on cars built overseas.
For example, I owned a MY05 WRX WRP10. They only put the limited edition WRP10 on sale on May '05, but the actual build dates of the cars were Nov '04.
Subaru Aus had the cars delivered, applied the STi upgraded parts and limited edition badging as part of their compliancing process, then rebadged the build to be '05.
Seeing the line was only released in '05 for sale they are considered '05 cars.

Mine is a late 07 build, I think 08 model... but buggered if I know if there is any difference between an 07 and 08.
the only difference I know between 06 and 07 is the boot doesn't have an external lock on it from 07 onwards.
And someone correct me, the MY is a subaru designation, not a generic vehicle name??

MY = model year. Sometimes a mid year spec change can get a 0.5 increase in MY eg MY8.5
And I will repeat... when it comes to $$$$$$$ the build date is the key. Compliance plate date means diddlie-squat. Cars can sit for months (even years!) before compliancing. It's why all the best sales are in Jan-MAr of the year. Manufacturers are clearing all cars with build dates of the year before.
Model year with VWs starts in September IIRC. So any car built after that would be to the later year spec.
A September 07 built car would be to 08 spec.
MK2 Golfs are a case that illustrates the concept. In the UK/The World the big bumpers like Aussie delivered GTIs, were introduced on late 89 built cars. Hence the whole of the UK knows them as '90 Spec' but they were sold long before 1990.
I would put both dates in the Ad if relevant or, if it was built long before registration. just the first rego date. I don't think you can be had for not advertising the build date, if the first rego date makes the car look a lot more attractive. That's what advertising is all about.
Of course if anyone asks, you have to tell the truth.
