  • Polo Sounds like a truck

The other day a at a friends I noticed my car sounded a little louder than normal
Drove home from friends and it started to get really loud.
Parked over night and took it out the next day and sounded like no exhaust, coming from up around the engine

I guessed the exhaust had come loose around the Turbo or Dump pipe.

Took it to the exhaust place today and they said the whole weld on the flange that bolts onto the turbo has craked and come off

This is a ARP Product, according to Petrina who I got the car off
    Not Happy
Paid $265 to have it taken off and all welded up which i think was a bit high, seeing as it only took 2.5 hours

I had a previous post about my boost or loss of boost a few months ago, seems it is back now, must have been due to the crack

Does anyone know the quality of these products and where they are made
It should have a warranty on the workmanship

    Thanks

If its an APR Downpipe - take it to your APR dealer - it does have a warranty for a certain time period.

Even if it was purchased by someone else in another state (sounds like the case?) and you have proof of purchase (receipt) they will inspect it free of charge for you.

If you have a Ford & want warranty, it best not to take it to a Holden dealer.

        Thanks for that

I little late as I went to the exhaust shop and they fixed it I didnt really know where the exhaust was broken so I thought a exhaust shop was the best option as I didnt know it was the Dump pipe

I was not going to pay for it to be looked and and taken off, then put it back on and go somewhere else and be stuffed around

Just say they said they would change it for another one, same thing might happen again

No probs - Have not had one fail like that before, so It's always good for us to see it too - They are made here in Brisbane & we have exported them around the world

Hope it stays together for you now with the repair

Whilst I really feel for you, I'm going through funny problems after getting mine flashed. And I'm not having a go at the APR product. I just find it VERY funny that Petrina wouldn't take his car to the track cause it would "Wreck" it, then he sells it and there are cracks in the dump pipe

            Glad it wasn't too expensive.

              Hi,

I paid around $1200 for that dump pipe less than 6 months before the car was sold. Yes its the APR unit purchased and installed at Europena Auto at Mona Vale, Derek fitted it.

Car has never seen the track and noone has touched the car other than APR dealer and I had VW tighten turbo bolts just a month or two before car was sold.

              It should be under warranty.

Guy I would question those dump pipes, the new owner drove it from Sydney to Melbourne, I would guess that 90% of the time it would have been just cruising and the prolonged heat or vibration etc must have contributed to the fail..

When the car was in my driveway it rarely was driven. I would not have seen this fail until after warranty.

                Hey,

read about your dump pipe fail.. Yes its an APR product and it was bought and fitted by APR dealer, derek at mona vale, european auto sports or something. I think the receipt was in the glove box too. Anyhow it will be on their records. Noone else has touched the car except VW to tighten turbo bolts.

Im sorry to hear of that, dissappointed with APR, I paid top dollar for that gear.

Still would like to see a picture of how it failed to analyze it - as mentioned, never had a downpipe fail where it meets the turbo.

But it sounds like the repairer did not photograph the failure so I can not tell.

im sure apr will fix it.

But in my case i didnt drive the car often and it would be unlikely to have failed the way i used it but as the new owner can attest was ready to go at any minute..

Im almost sure the drive to melbourne worked out the weak weld. If i kept the car and it went in a years time or two years time but having been driven only a few thousand km, would apr warrant that?

At least it explained the loss of boost that i never experienced whilst owning the car.

I dont know if I want them to lol

The guy at the exhaust shop said the welds are really weak. he said he "double walled it" whatever that means

I have had some welding done there before and they seem to do a really good job

Im guessing now it is probably better than new, not sure

Going to try to have a look at it tomorrow
