Annoying Rattle!

Hey Guys,

This is a two-pronged question. Hope someone out there may shed some light on them.

1) Car has developed an annoying rattle somewhere in either the drivers side dash (around light switch, but behind it, or otherwise in the same vicinity inside door). I know rattles can be a problem to find, but have removed both fuse cover and small panel to right of steering and checked inside, but no luck. I am thinking about removing the door trim, but am I am a little apprehensive with all the electrics attached.

2) As part of sale, dealer promised to change outside rubber sill, which they did at first service. Should it be glued in place, because with window all the way down, it can be moved freely.

Get used to the rattles... if it's still under a year old (or so) they should be able to fix it for you but in my experience usually takes a few trips there as they can be hard to find.

take it back to the dealer.... warranty & u get a free loan car.

Mine had a similar issue but I can't be sure if yours is the same of course.

Either the dash is mounted slightly higher than it should, or the door trim panel lower than it should be, so where the panel and dashboard meet, they rub against each other and rattle.

A bit of adhesive felt in strips solved the problem.

I don't think it's the door/dash rubbing, as i have tried driving up the street with door open, and rattle still there.

I had this issue, took back to the dealer once it started to develop on passenger side as well...

Sound seems to come from behind the air outlet or maybe door?

Dealer told me it was the radiator mounts. I don't understand how this could have been making that noise, but either way, whatever they did got rid of that noise.

The Pog is a rattler, after you flog it hard a few times, it opens up all the little squeaks around the dash.

I've found if I turn the radio up and use my right foot heavily I don't hear the rattles ... it's an option

Noone seems to be on the money regarding the noise and its wherabouts. Anyhow, got fed up today and decided to have a look inside door. Printed out diagram for door disassembly and spent the afternoon dismantling the drivers side door. Found a few things that were not reassembled correctly by dealer when they replaced outer door sill. An hour and a half later, everything is back together the way it should have been.

I'm no mechanic, but do have the tinkering gene, so why can I reassemble the door properly, and the trained/qualified mechanics can't? Are the dealer mechanics really that incompetent?

Fingers crossed the rattle has been sorted, but not that optimistic. Will feed back tomorrow after driving to/from work.

Don't count on dealers doing things properly. Had the passenger side lock actuator replaced under warranty, car came back with a rattle so I took the trim panel off and found two of the 6 plastic clips holding the panel to the door missing, this was not the cause of the rattle though, but definitely came from within the door, since I got a service coming up anyway I'll hammer them then and let them fix it.

It could also be the loom inside the dash hitting against something. I've had the cabin pollen filter in my previous car to be loose and would also create a rattling sound.

Does it only happen when the car is at idle or under load?

Hey Guys,

Just another question regarding the rattle eminating from rhs door/dash area. It's been quite hot the past few days, and the rattle has become louder. So if the car has been out in the sun all day, the rattle is quite loud and constant. The bigger the bump in the road, the louder/longer the rattle is. It also seems to only start/become worse when the car has thouroughly warmed up.

Any suggestions??? Car is booked in next week for some remedial work, and will bring it to their attention, but based on their track record, I doubt they'll do anything but damage something else...
