2001 polo stalling

Quick question, asking for a friend:

2001 Polo 1.6 is stalling when she lifts off the accelerator to change gears, go round corners. Also, the idle speed drops.

Any ideas what might be wrong? MAF maybe?

my guess would be MAF or a vacuum hose.

I've experienced this before and found that the culprit was the fuel filter. In the meantime, try rev matching to avoid the engine from stallin when changing gears

Thanks for the comments guys. Car has been booked in to VW so I will post up what the problem was for future refence when I find out.

Have a word with Jmac, he can scan it and give you a diagnosis. Probably cheaper than VW.

Internet troubleshooting isn't that good in my opinion. Better to use a scanner.

Come in and see me tomorrow at V A Garage in Southport and I'll sort it out for you, will be much cheaper than heading down to VW. Otherwise, you can do this:

Firstly, it should be an AEE engine code being a 1.6. If so, the throttle body needs to be cleaned. With carby cleaner on a rag, open the butterly and clean between the surfaces. Next, on the drivers side, on the plastic inlet manifold near the dipstick tube and timing belt cover, there is a manifold pressure sensor. Remove this with a T20 hand tool and clean sensor thoroughly. Refit this and it should be all good to go.

Your car may need to have basic settings carried out on throttle body due to erratic idle after cleaning. Take car for a 15 minute drive using full throttle and release throttle every 7 or so seconds. It should go back to basic settings after doing this. If not, I can sort this out for you.

Classic AEE symptoms there, do as the man says if your are handy, clean the throttle body, however changed a few recently that wouldnt adapt. These ones in particular wouldnt idle or fast idle cold, yours slightly different. Cutting out at juctions can be a simple clean and yeah the MAP sensor is prone to oil contamination, this generally logs a G70 fault code mind you. If whoever looks at it can log it if unsure its the way to go you can watch the MAP sensor activity.
