To be honest, I would not bother with the intercooler at all for that much.

If you read the other FMIC threads, all tested options are around $900 or over.
For that money, your best bet is to find a shop that will take cash, strap on a 2nd hand stock cooler and fit it for you (unless you are a welder and fitter).

If you really can't spend more than that, I'd be getting some intake mods to help it breathe better.

If its stock, FMIC isn't really the place to start anyway, you'll likely get the bug later and want one

im probably going to get banned for this but it will be worth it. I dont know why you guys WONT LISTEN TO WHAT OTHERS ARE SAYING we have all proven the worth of a FMIC especially during the heat of summer and to say its not worth the 1100 for the forge unit is friggin ridiculous.

Whats the point of paying anywhere between 1 and 2k for a chip if during the heat of summer you return to near bog stock power due to heat soak (once again tested and proven on a dyno day)

For crying out loud if I had my time again I would be on that buy straight away 1100 for a FMIC of any type is decent price let alone for a Euro car. So how about you guys keep this to pm until you all realise the benefits of a FMIC

Also all this fussing about with organising couriers etc would be avoided if you just dealt with the people on here who are actually deal with Forge on a regular basis and know what they are doing.

congrats on getting the GTI, but good luck getting a FMIC kit for that price. even a guy who had a fabricator friend and bought the cheapest core anyone has found paid close to 900 dollars for his kit.

forge kit atm is the best option and is an absolute steal at 1100 DELIVERED from the UK.

These intercooler kits are technically the cheapest, but they are out of stock at the moment.

Once they come in stock I have one reserved.

Edit: Interestingly, they are different to all the other kits in the sense they don't have both the inlet and outlet on the same side.

Yes and no, they are using the same piping setup that all the MKIV GTi's and TT's used, which I would expect has been well tried and tested on the 1.8T over the years.

I think you'd find the extra piping would have a marginal impact on lag, in the order of maybe 200rpm max... which in a car that comes on boost well below 2000rpm I don't see as a problem.

Edit: Actually, even 200rpm more lag would be unlikely... that's the sort of lag increase you see on a WRX moving from zero piping on the top mount to the long piping required for a front mount.

Edit 2: I would also have a guess that the turbo to hot side of the intercooler piping on the stock intercooler would be comparable. The stock piping goes down from the turbo to next to the sump, across to the side of the motor, then all the way to the front of the engine bay to the bottom of the stock side mount. This kit would send that hot air slightly up over the MAF and intake pipe, to the front of the motor, and down to the intercooler. I would say the distances are very similar.

Edit 3: I stand corrected, as this shows the actual route of the intercooler piping. So yes, this kit is longer than other kits:

I went down that path. With the freight they are pretty much the same cost but with no support and not a brand name. May have changed a little with the strong aus$, how much you expecting it to be landed?

Oh yeah, BTW anyone waiting on an update, the Group buy will not be going ahead at this stage as we don't have the numbers. I'm not really keen on going back to Forge and asking for 3-4 coolers at the same price, so if anyone wants to take the lead, please let me know and I can forward you some info as to where I got to and who I've been talking with.

Ok, so lets get back to the group buy please.

There's a million ways of getting the job done, This thread is about Forge's solution.

Wat? Only $600 and you expect to get a decent intercooler kit (assuming that's what you want and not a backyard job)? All I can say is good luck mate. Maybe you might change your mind one day and realise that you might or should've spent the extra cash for a good one.

I go the Forge one and have never looked back. Asides from the chip and suspension upgrades, the FMIC kit is the next best thing to see a real change (especially on warm to hot days).

The intercooler looks way to big and the piping route is silly, that intercooler kit looks like some chinese **** and is only worth $300 max.

In regards to the forge kit coming with a reinforcement bar, I think its really neat and convenient, but I don't think its needed.

I guess its like having 3 testicles when you only need 1-2.

Up to you man...I think it is great and cheap as to get with the added renforcement bar in there. I would love to have 3 nuts...Its like having 2 million sperm, and only one doing the job.
Anyway, I think you are dreaming if you think you can get a made to fit proven intercooler for $600.

Anyway, back OT...Is this group buy going ahead??

Any more I/C banter can be done in any number of the other I/C threads we have on here.

Forge I/C group buy only talk from here on in.

                          Something to think about:

Who here would buy a 2nd hand no-name polo gti intercooler kit, whereas who would buy a brand name 2nd hand kit?

This is something that people who modify cars forget about, and it means that sometimes your loss at resale time can largely negate any cost savings you made when purchasing the kit.

Having modded another car to the hilt, I know that most of those mods lose a lot of their value as soon as they get installed. As such, buying proven and known bolt-ons that can be fitted to other people's cars easily when sold 2nd hand (if you sell the car) is often a more sensible path to take.

However, a well made kit at any cost will always be appealing. A name brand isn't the only indicator of quality, the construction and fit of the kit is the most important thing. So buy whatever gets you a proven, well constructed kit that is a genuine bolt-on and if you can get that at a good price then you have won that battle.

Ok, veering off topic. Let not make this a "Forge pro / con". Lets get to the nitty gritty. How many people do we need to get his group buy going? Cause I'm jumping on this group buy regardless if it takes me a year to get the damn thing fitted.
                            Current:
                            2023 Mk2 Tiguan R - Lapiz Blue

Gone but not forgotten: 2008 Polo GTI Shadow Blue
