Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • VW 9n3 S2000 wide Body kit

Got priced up on the S2000 wide bodykit

    €900 rear
    €700 front
    €500 approx for shipping

works out roughly to be $3,500 landed

Thanks to static1800's Holy Grail thread in general, I went to the http://www.renegeorges.be/ site, these are the guys that build these cars.

So these are the legit carbon fiber parts so should explain the price.

        Don't tell me these things!!!

What width of rubber do you think you could fit under them?

If you fit really wide wheels, what other work would you need to do in conjunction to make this work? Assuming that normal suspension would not cut it with the extra leverage the wider wheels provide.

Thanks Whubbsie, even if no one goes down this path, I'm always interested in what is out there and appreciate your effort to look into this and let us know...

Of course I want to, but short of turning to a life of crime its totally out of reach at the moment. But yeah while I own the polo its on the to-do list

the S2000 runs 18x8 with 235/40s for tarmac
I'd say you could get away with 9s without any poke easy. So I'd go 10s

No idea on what issues would rise from running wider tyres though, guess the clutch would need to be up to scratch.

I took my car to the wheel and tyre shop lately and got measured up for 225/35R17's they said because I have my front and rear guards lipped and rolled they would fit no worries on 17x8's ET 30-35 rims without scrubbing. You won't get the poke look but its a fraction of the cost of the kit above.

DO IT!!!!! How much did it cost you to get the guards rolled? Do you have any pics?

I've got 17 x 8 ET 30 with now 215/40 - rear guards rolled, front not. 225/35 fit ok on the rear, but not on the front without major surgery - clearance on full lock is the problem, at least on mine. Also, the only 225/35 17 I could find in oz (Falken) was too expensive. Marangoni make this size but don't import it.

Yeah it's on my list after the turbo, clutch and phase III are all in! Costs about $250 all up for front and rear. For pics check out my project thread in my signature

Catfish youre right mate the Falkens are the only option at this stage

You lot need to get to the racetrack for a gander and have a look at some serious racecars. Those S2000's are not about big wheels, they are about being fast cars - have a look at the suspension that gets used under them. It has no relevance whatsoever to your polo at home.

I would not suggest running a wheel much wider than an 8" and a factory car.

Google "scrub radius" and "bump steer" and have a think about what effect this will have on your daily driver.

Its not all about racing, sometimes you just want the car to be down and out...

You say that, but you haven't thought out what your wheel/tyre combo is gonna do to your handling.

                            ie; ruin it.

                              Hey guys,

I actually spoke to jet Speed about this. The owner has a bit of a soft spot for VWs. Anyway, he said around 6k to make a kit from scratch, although they would drop to around a grand each if we could get a group of 6 people together. After that you got painting and fitting. Plus if you want to do the rear flares properly you actually have to cut up the panels!!

If we can get a few peple in the price comes down dramatically
