Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Polo wheel arch flares???

Hey guys, was bored so looked at the VW Australia site and in the accessories section, there's a a set of wheel arch flares for the Polo. Just wondering if anyone has this on their Polo and what their thought are? Several years ago, I was told by the dealer that is I got the 18" karthoum wheels for the golf V, then its a legal requirement to get the wheel arch flares with it. Thoughts about its truth, function and looks?

One problem there which the dealer should well have know... golf 5 wheels won't fit on a Polo, it's a different stud pattern (5x112 for golfs, 5x100 for Polo). Sounds like a dodgy sales ploy to me, unless the 18's had such a low offset that the rims poked out wider than the arches. As far as I know, no modern VW wheel has an offset low enough to make that happen.

Have you got a link for a site, I'm too lazy to go searching. Wonder if they'd look any good.

The link to the webpage is as follows: http://www.volkswagen.com.au/vwcms/m.../Exterior.html

Nah what I meant was at the time, I was looking into buying a Golf V so was interested in the 18" wheels but was told by the dealer that its a legal requirement to get the wheel arch flares with the wheels. Hope it clears up my typo (don't knowwhat it is but recently I've been making typos without even realising it until a later date).

I'm thinking that it would add a nice subtle touch to finish off the exterior look of the polo. Helps to give it a slight increase in phatness if you know what I mean. I have seen the setup on the Golf V in silver (my car's silver too so hope it looks good). Now, its just a matter of price and install etc.

Hey guys just picked up the set of wheel arch flares. They come in a set of four. Just a matter of finding time to book the car in to get them painted and fitted.
