Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • JVC Ipod Adapter install - Plus hidden switch

    Hi Guys,

Just wondering how much I should be paying to get someone to come out and install the ipod connector, and also a hidden switch for the DVD player, so it can work whilst driving but can be switched off for purposes everyone is aware of.

    I have been quoted

    $150
    $120
    $80

What do you guys think? How much should I be paying?

Forgot to add, Car is VW Polo GTI MY2006

They're all reasonable, assuming the quality of work reflects the different pricing.

I think be prepared to pay from $60-$80 per hour

I inquired and was given a Quote of $80 a hour, and it would take about 5 hours to get my stereo in

I wouldnt just be looking at how much you are paying but also who is doing the work. I have see some professional installs that looked more like a backyard job. Even though the wires were all colour coded, all they had to do was match the colours and they still got it wrong.

I eneded up rewiring that head-unit because the radio would not retain the radio stations in memory. I cant remember exact details but they mixed up the constant and acc wires.

The Stereo is already installed though.

All i need is to have the ipod adapter connected and a switch so the dvd players works when driving and also flick the switch and it wont.

          Still $60-$80?

Any professional installer would say no to doing the "Secret" switch.
