  • Iphone on Polo Stereo

    Hi Guys,

did a search but couldnt find anything specific.

Two things, I just bought an Iphone and want to use it in my Polo GTi. I have a mate with the stereo integration thing leftover from his Mk5 Golf so I can get the components cheap.

    So

    1. Does the Ipod adaptor work with the Iphone?
    2. Do I have to get VW to install the adaptor or can any shop do it (warranty runs out in 2 weeks)? Or even can I do it myself? Has anyone else installed it themselves?

The number on the package to confirm parts is 1K0 051 444.

    Any help appreciated.

cant comment on the above sorry but i can advise to lose the OEM deck and put in an aftermarket one!

I run an eclipse headunit...iphone wirelessly plays tunes/phonecalls through stereo via bluetooth...no cords/docks to worry bout...have also got an ipod adaptor/USB in the glovebox - can't recommend it enough

      1. check out http://www.vwwatercooled.org.au/newf...ghlight=iphone

      for number 2:
I remember asking this question myself some time ago. If you plan on doing it yourself, from memory you'll need the dash keys, and you'll need to dismantle large proportions of the whole dash.

Apparently you get close to no control of your iPod/iPhone by connecting it to the factory connecter in the Polo.

I'm looking around for something like this http://www.xcarlink.co.uk/product.ph...4&cat=2&page=1 available locally.

There is http://www.xcarlink.com.au/index.php...a239d84c41d080 but i'm not sure if they're compatible with the iPhone 3GS....actually, i'm not even sure if the model in the first link supports the 3GS either...

I'm finding it a tricky process to get what i'm after here in Aus: an adapter that allows me to control the 3GS via the radios buttons while charging the iPhone & supporting the use of a bluetooth device, which i'm thinking of adding in future.

You need one of these (or similar, there are a few companies that make them):

Whether you're looking for a fast new iPhone charger or a replacement tablet charger, Scosche's ultra-fast phone chargers and batteries are a great choice.

I pulled the kit out of the plastic and plugged the Iphone into the connector and the phone flashed up "this product is not designed to work with the Iphone, do you want to change to airplane mode?"

Pretty sure Ill just keep burning CDs.

Thanks for the links and stuff guys.

I use a Connect2 adaptor for my mp3 player. It connects to the CD changer controller on the headunit and has a simple earphone jack to plug into the MP3 player. Does the job and was inexpensive.

                THey have this for iPods

Nearly all iPhone connnectivity devices for cars do that. Just click no and it will continue as normal. Even the VW MDI generates the same prompt.

                        iphone

I have opted for an xcarlink thing

They say it should do work with an iphone - once I get it in the car I will let you know. They are sending out the right one to me after going though the selection on the website (they were quite helpful just a long way away in the UK). It does bluetooth which I was going to employ to get phones in and music out, rather than the connector. I have one of the dash cubbys I was going to install the connector in and make a little mount for my iphone. I was thinking of wiring power separately (ie pulling apart a cheap car iphone charger) or maybe opting for one of those tom tom GPS mounts so that I can get decent GPS

Having thought about it some more (and sadly after parting with cash) I think that the best option would be afternoon single din with aux in or iphone connectivity and use your new space to keep sunglasses, or install a few gauges.

I will post pics once I have it all together

                        b

                            Nice!

I got the basic Minijack (headphone style 3.5mm) connection module from UK for <$100. Not bad...
