officially how wide do your rims need to be to fit 235's or 245's under? 9' or 10'? and if so is rubbing the main concern or the fact that it sticks out from the guard so much? .........apologies for hijacking , btw.

Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled
After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.
Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before.
We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Mike,
There is a lot of variance on what should fit on what, and specific tyre manufacturer's have their own guides.
On a MKV GTI we run 8.5" wheels & a 235 sits nicely, a 245 fits on the same rim too, but the 245 rubs (on our car anyway).
On some of our other cars we run 245 on a 10" rim too.
In one of my Ozaudi posts, I photographed a 235 width Toyo R888 next to a 225 Hoosier R6 (on the same rim) - believe it or not, the 225 was almost 15mm wider than the 235
