  • Help me with my boost

    Having problems with my car

Took the engine cover off last week to clean the car and must have knocked this (blue handle)

Guessing it controls the boost, I can only get it to about 17Psi instead of the 22Psi it was before on the APR program, seems very touchy to get right

I went out today and got a proper turbo bleed valve

Do all boosted polos use some kind of manual boost control ?

never seen a set up like that in my life??? The N75 is a EBC for the polo and 1.8T engine, MBC are fitted after market with people running BT with high boost. The N75 valve is a 3 way valve, stem going into the TIP is ambient pressure, one on the bottom is boost pressure (from turbo) and last one controls the wastegate. I think it works by if you overboost, pressure coming from turbo, n75 see's this and opens the wastegate more basically. So where you have that valve with the blue handle fitted, coming from the turbo (boost pressure) i cant see why you would have it there, should be open all the time??? Maybe am wrong tho??? lol

I think you will find most Polo's don't have bunnings hardware fitted like that. In my opinion there is no need for it.

I'd take it out and re-plumb the pipe back to factory.

Maybe they were too tight to chip it properly?

Maybe his car was going into limp mode from overboosting and fitted that to to shut off the boost pressure or reduce it so the wastegate wouldnt be opened up??? An idiot if that is the case?? Can you not contact the guy that you got it from to ask out of curiousity??

Was this Hulk/ Petrina polo's car?

                  That may explain it..

He seems to do things his own special way.

I think Plautos did this mod to his using a Festo valve (not a Bunnings tap) to reduce air flow to the N75 and delay wastegate opening - don't know the results. Check on his thread.

I'm surprised he didn't go over the car with you and point out what had been done with it. That's a very obvious mod to skip over.
Did you end up getting in contact with Petrina, or did you replace the hose?
I would be getting the garden tap out of my engine bay, and sticking with the stock boost controller.

                        Bunnings = FAIL...

Just got another bit of hose and put it in
Car seems ok, still wont peak to 22PSI, hose dosent have a kink, but a little bend, wonder if this restricts the flow.

Might try to get some blue silicone hose, at it will match my TIP when it comes

Car also has the N75J, might put the standard one back in and see how it goes, play around with it a little.

It is my car now, so i guess I need to sort out what works and dosent, and get rid of anthing that was done which is not needed

                              Yes, Petrina's playing...

This is the same mod as Plautos and I did, but with a different tool to do it. I did not have any real need for it (didn't improve anything), so pulled it out also.

There can be an issue where some boost is dumped, the N75J and N249 bypass both look to amend this issue.

Petrina got the N75 at the same time as me, it helped me greatly with a fluctuation issue I was having (the diverter dumping little bits of boost). But Petrina did not seem to feel or hear any difference (but think he got it as a toy rather than to fix something).

As you've bypassed the flow control valve, things should return to normal.

If you have a fluctuation in the pitch of your turbo (the turbo whistle does not build then plateau smoothly) try bypassing the N249 as it seems to be this little buggery box which is assisting the engine with dump control (in some peoples car, to negative effect).

                              Good luck.
