  • exhaust upgrade options

    hi all

i have been looking around at some exhaust options and came across this:
    http://www.bestmufflers.com/bshop/pr...496a709be7b68b

    what do you all think?
what upgrades have others done that they like or don't like - and why.

    Thanks

    hey mate,

there are a few threads on the topic, try searching for dump pipe, down pipe, exhaust, muffler.

In summary, the exhuast as a whole is not too restrictive.

    - If you replace the dump/down pipe (section from the back of the turbo housing to the cat), you get an extra 5-10kw.
    - If you do the full exhaust you may get an extra 1-5kw on top of the dump pipe figures.

Different diameter pipes yeild different results. you can generally go 2.5" or 3" dump and same with the cat back.

All depends what you're after. I'm assuming this is for a GTI?

Personally, I got a custom dump done for less than $350, sounds a little meaner and unleashed a little more power. I went the 2.5" option as some have mentioned possible torque issues with 3" dump.

If you're just after the look, then you can just replace the tips or muffler and tips.

Personally, for the money the Miltek and other options cost, you can get good results in custom work for less or just do the dump and spend the rest somewhere else...

All depends on your criteria (spend, power, look, sound)
