  • What is the black round thing below DV? Is it MAF housing?

    Hi guys,

What is that black round thing below DV? Is it MAF housing? I do have tiny bit of oil deposits around the rubber joining area... my car has done 43000km. Oil covering like condensation. Not dripping or as such. What is it? and do I need to do anything about it?

    The car goes well.

I am talking about the black round thing you can see below the diverter valve... which part is this?

Its the Crank Case breather valve. It will have oil vapour going through it, and that why you see some oil.

folks, is this a big issue? i just noticed this in my car (done about 17,000km). i've changed the valve. the part number has changed with the last alphabet being a B now instead of A. so i assume VW has done something to the design or materials used for the construction of the valve.

after changing the valve, the car feels more urgent (throttle feels more sensitive), and it sure feels like boost is coming on sooner and stronger.

is there a long term solution to this problem?

It shouldn't have anything to do with the boost at all. All that valve dose is allow gas build up in the crank case to escape back into the non boost intake side of the turbo. Its more of an emissions thing than anything. On older cars this would just vent to atmosphere. I think your problem may be deeper than this valve.

hmmmmmmm.......i've got at least 4 other friends with exactly the same problem. our valves are covered in oil - not leaking, dripping oil, but enough for you to see dirt accumulated on the valve.

all of us are running chipped cars from different tuners (apr, abt, unitronic, etc).

perhaps i should just take this to a workshop and have them take a look?

This would be a very good suggestion...
