Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • WOFTAM's Polo GTI

    Hi Everyone.

I recently bought a Polo GTI as a daily driver and have a few plans for some mods to make it a better drive.

I took it to my mates workshop for a 'before' dyno figure on his new Mainline Dynolog AWD1000. It made 91kw at the wheels, although it's more than 300kw less than my weekend car.

Next up I'll have the tune, turbo-back exhaust and some intake changes sorted so we'll see what each change results in. Nothing over the top planned, just something mild as far as the engine goes.

    Cheers.

    Looks in good condition.

I've gotta ask though....what do you drive on the weekend?

      Welcome to the forum.

That's right on the money for a std one. Lots of modified Polo's on here, so you'll not be short of info to use.

      X2 what's the big hitter?????

The other car is Twin Turbo Holden Commodore. I've had it since new and hardly drive it now.

It's very different to drive compared to the Polo. When the Polo comes on boost it get a bit torque steery. When the Commodore comes on boost all hell breaks loose. But I must say the Polo is a fun little car. I can't wait to get the suspension sorted.

OMG that thing is sex on wheels

Not a commodore fan but im sure most people can apreciate a car for the level of performance and fabrication that is there

It's a bit over 400kw at the wheels in it's current state of tune. The boost level i usually use on the road gives around 360rwkw which is enough for RWD on the road, but I have an eboost2 boost controller so full boost is only the press of a button away. It's currently got quite a tame tune in it with not too much timing and plenty of fuel and the supporting hardware would let me go for quite a much larger power figure if I leaned on it.

Not really bothered about 1/4 mile. I had some slicks and front runners but then changed the brakes and the drag wheels no longer fitted. It's pointless taking it with road tyres now.

Funnily enough, I've recently been toying with the idea of getting the soon to be released HSV VE2 R8 or GTS and maybe get it supercharged when the mod bug hits. Still trying to convince wifey on it but didn't help when the dealer hinted at a possible lpg version/kit sometime in the near future. So wifey said why not wait for it so it costs much less to run. Hmm maybe not too bad an idea after all?

You'll be looking at 120k+ too own one plus have it going reliably... A mate has a supercharged GTS. Has alot of problems with the auto in it. And the cars computer over riding stuff... A more cheaper option is a Big single turbo kit. Say a GT47R etc.. Will be alot cheaper. Alot more fun. And sound rad. If you are seriously thinking about doing this... Get a R8.. The GTS has way too many features which stop you tuning the ecu. R8 is alot easier too use.

Make sure you get a manual with a twin plate clutch. Auto will just keep ****ing out no matter how much money you spend on it.

Does it have a screamer? Haha. V8's with screamers sound nuts especially with the turbo whistle too go along with it.

I wouldnt bother with qtr mile either. Car like that wont run less then a 12 on street tyres. But will beat 10 second cars on the street...

Lol 120k, bugger that spend a little more and get a Nissan GTR and you have yourself an already off the shelf supercar killer without the hassle of a canary as you would with modified cars (unless that being the whole purpose of tracking only).
