has anyone on here upgarded there cam shafts? was just curious. some of them from this site http://www.intengineering.com/Cat-Ca.../sc262362-1-2/ have some interesting options. some of them produce more power at top end which could be usfull, while im guess at a sacrafice to low end torque, which could help with wheel spin. any thaughts? oh and incase people are wondering i know ther for mark 4 golfs but id asume the 1.8t cam shafts would be similar/same.

Be good to see some figures after these cams are done as im sure our good friend plautos knows if you go too agressive on cams you can bleed off compression, and lets face it compression is the key. This of course can be dealt with buy changing the structure of the piston or decking the block.
Functionality is another thing.
Interesting thread to be started here guys good work

Yeah Jimmy, great points! I just looked at Mikes link and it says there are 3 different hydraulic grinds, 2 very aggressive by the sounds of things and the other one more mild and street friendly which are the same as Plautos 3651'sOriginally posted by Jmac View PostBe good to see some figures after these cams are done as im sure our good friend plautos knows if you go too agressive on cams you can bleed off compression, and lets face it compression is the key. plautos replyed that his definatly helped on track at high revs , but probably wouldnt be worth day to day. but then again the way some of us drive ours it certainly couldnt hurt. i know i wouldnt say no to more top end, and lets face it 780-800 delivered isnt that much of an ask.
Ps: plautos if you in any way didnt want me to quote you, let me know and ill edit my post.
hmm group buy might certainly be in contention, since i got my tax return." I wait I resolution derive pleasure this " latest spammer post

I never change a camshaft on a vw, but is it straight forward swap like lift the cam cover, pull out the old cam and fit the new ones?
Just wondering how much would that cost to install it...
I am interested in as well, but do we need new software for it?
Hmm....

these are some of the same questions i had. aparently plautos is using apr k04 software (by no means em i endorsing a chip here ) and he has scene gains. so im guessing not. maybe someone with more technical knowledge could shed some light on the dificulty rating on changeing a vw cam shaft.Originally posted by hkogti View PostI never change a camshaft on a vw, but is it straight forward swap like lift the cam cover, pull out the old cam and fit the new ones?

A fair bit more to it than lifting a cam cover off mate im afraid, you have the valve timing to set, timing belt off, and a chain runs between the 2 cams which too has to be set up, there is a cam chain adjuster in there too. You can get this seriously wrong. Not for a novice .Originally posted by mikepologti View Postthese are some of the same questions i had. aparently plautos is using apr k04 software (by no means em i endorsing a chip here ) and he has scene gains. so im guessing not. maybe someone with more technical knowledge could shed some light on the dificulty rating on changeing a vw cam shaft.

This is just an opinion but cams are the last thing I'd be replacing on a 20VT. I'd spend money everywhere else before opening up the motor.
Invariably they produce power where it's least accessible.
A cam in a normally aspirated motor makes sense but multivalves flow well by design so there's less to be gained, especially in a daily driver.
