  • Ebay Intake Kits - Thoughts

Alright, I'm looking to fit a pod filter but I'm trying to position it around below the battery for a cooler air feed much like the HPS kit and the K&N Typhoon kits.

Now obviously I'd rather not spend the $250-350 for the brand name kits, so I was tempting the idea of getting a cheaper intake kit (similar to this ) and use the intake tract, but just replace the included cheapo filter out for a brand name one.

Has anyone done something similar and can provide feedback on this idea?

I've already searched and read the threads on pod filters, but I both want the filter in a position to receive cooler air rather than the typical fitment that i've seen where people have just been getting an adapter to fit them in the standard airbox position. I also want it further away from the MAF to avoid issues with the oil from the filter shorting the MAF's life.

(actually, on a side note... I was tempting the idea of a foam filter like the unifilter products to avoid having to use a oiled filter... but naturally this has a shorter life, and is more susceptible to water, which may be an issue depending on how low its fitted)

Alternatively, I was tempting the other option of getting a enclosed pod, and running it's intake tubing to a similar position to the standard intake track in the front grill.

If you decided to go to pod, you wont get any cool air mate!

Even with the heat shield, when i flooring the car on highway (2nd gear red line), you will keep sucking hot air (from engine, turbo etc), and the air only get cooler once you are on crusing speed (5th gear, 110km/h).

But you got the sound, i got a high pitch blowing sound when i lift the throttle on high rpm, and a flattering noise if i lift under 3000rpm, i bet you will love this noise.... And you can hear the engine sucking air clearly...

It looks like you do more harm then good if you switch to pod (even with cool air duct etc)...

By the way, i found no space for a bigger duct then stock to draw cool air without cutting and drilling...

Let us know if you found something new!

Yeah, I'm not interested in just leaving an open pod where the airbox is due to the heat of the air there. The options were place the pod somewhere else so its not drawing in hot air, or alternatively getting an enclosed pod like this (obviously something far more descrete than that, ideally in black) with some intake tubing connecting that to a position like the standard intake mount on the grill.

Here is another example of one of the options I was considering:

          K&N Apollo universal intake

Engine bay is very restrictive. A few have had a play with better induction plans, but as those who have upgraded don't seem to have recieved any power gains, its a good bit of fun and more noise but for power, you're better off looking elsewhere.

The goal is essentially two-fold, to decrease intake restriction in preparation for getting a flash tune solution (I want to have my planned mods all done before I take the car in to get tuned), and to get some intake/BOV noise in the process without increasing intake temperatures.
