Advice for ipod & bluetooth adaptor installation

iPhone does not stream phone call audio through the iPod interface, you will need BT for that.

I thought as much, and also the bluetooth I got was the xcarlink one at www.xcarlink.co.uk

I realised you need bluetooth anyways to be able to speak as you need the mic

But hoping there is no compatibility problems. I mean the device is expecting an ipod to be plugged in and a phone is using the bluetooth what happens when those two devices are the same - the iphone.. I hope one doesnt cancel out the other when a call comes in.. Or if you are using phone while music is play hope that doesnt cut the music out..

I am yet to fit my Xcarlink Ipod adaptor, as I am away atm, and it is sitting at home with the pile of other stuff to fit to my car, but with the adaptor, is there anywhere behind or below the stereo to mount the box that comes with the adaptor, or dose this have to go in the glove box??

Well the box is meant to be accessible so the cords are long enough to route it to the glovebox or wherever or in my case underneath the steering wheel

Ok, but can it fit in behind the stereo or below it?? I don't want the box in my glove box or under my steering wheel, or anywhere it can be seen or get in the way of stuff. I just want to be able to see the cord and the ipod/iphone, nothing more. Just curious.

Well not sure on that.

Perhaps you could mount it underneath the shelf under the steering wheel then feed the ipod cord up to the shelf or down onto the floor

Not sure if there is much room behind the radio to sit it you would have to have a poke around in there.

I'm quite happy having it on the shelf under the steering wheel, I dont see notice it. Others put it in the glovebox or one other poster put theres behind the card holder but it required some modifications.

I have the bluetooth part so I needed it to reach as far as possible as the bluetooth cord wasnt exactly that long to run it up the door frame for the mic.

Just looking at alternatives to the Xcarlink, this model from belkin looks ok. It doesn't have a mic, so you'll need to position it properly to make use of the speaker phone (how is the iphones hands-free speaker anyway?). But I was told the callers voice will be heard through your cars speakers.

It just needs to be connected to the Polos auxillery port (there is an aux input in the back of the head unit right???), while the dock port is hooked up to your cig lighter, so it charges the iphone at the same time.

+ it can accomodate an iphone with an existing case.
