Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Hope you fellas don't mind me bringing up an old thread.

For an 08/09 build, can anyone shed some light as to whether paying $25K drive-away is a great deal? No options. I was quoted $30.5K and $31.5K (2 diff. dealers) with leather for 08/09 builds.

Can someone shed some light and see if this is OK or should I be able to bring this down further? (For both non-leather and leather)

      Cheers.

That's not bad, considering it's market value is still $26,990 with no options. But I think I read on this forum that someone bought theirs around $24K but that was in Melbourne. There's also the new Polos coming out maybe pitch that in and hopefully they'll drop the price a bit more.
        Current:
        2023 Mk2 Tiguan R - Lapiz Blue
        2015 Mk7 Golf R Wolfsburg - Limestone Grey: Stage 2
Gone but not forgotten: 2008 Polo GTI Shadow Blue

Mine was $23,888 drive away for an 08 build/09 compliance.

$25k seems to be a good price still, I've been keeping an eye on the prices and they still seem to be at least $27,000.

Personally, with the new model coming out later this year I wouldn't be paying a cent over $26k with leather on the road.

Any more than that and I'd be saving my money for the new Polo GTI.

              Hey guys,

Thought I'd chime in on the conversation regarding a new gti purchase. Firstly, I'm absolutely gobsmacked at the mention of any new purchase below $24000, you are one very lucky customer.

I recently purchased a brand new gti for $27300 (drive away), and had thought I received a pretty good deal. I squeezed both sydney and newcastle dealers to match melbourne prices (as they were the cheapest around), but they wouldn't budge. Some even mentioned go to melbourne. Most would not go below $30000. Anyhow, thought I'd try another dealer, and got the price mentioned.

Secondly, as mentioned in another thread, a dealer informed me that this model/shape of polo was no longer being produced, and that a '09 build was virtually not existent. So be aware that you will receive a '09/'10 compliance, but most probably a late '08 build. This means in salesperson talk, "This is a '09/'10 model car (upon purchase)", which then turns into "This is a '08 build (upon trade in). Be careful.

Finally, buying new means you have 3 years factory warranty, and know that nobody has thrashed the car and selling you their problems. I started with used searches, but too many crash repairs and burnt clutches, so I went new. You have a chance of a better deal if the car is sitting on the lot, rather than sitting for 2 weeks after ordering.

              Good luck!

Yeah it's kinda hard to get $26K with leather. Dealers won't budge despite the new model being released this year. I know as soon as this new model comes out, the price will drop $4-6K just because 'who on earth would buy a 09 model at $30.5K when you can pay an extra few thousand for the new one!'

The best I could get them down to was $31.5K and $30.5K. One was a Sydney dealer, the other, a QLD dealer. So, to say $26K, I think it's far fetch, though, I do feel you're right in saying that it shouldn't be anymore than that due to the new one being released this year.

I'll try my luck and see how I go.

Also, whats the ball park price you think a dealer can do on a new 08/09 with leather? Just a rough idea..

                      Hi Mike,

I'm talking about a new 08 Polo Gti with leather. The best I could get it to was $28.8k driveaway. I'm try to get this to at least 27.5-28k.

Pog: are you dead set on leather? The cloth is actually really nice in person, I wasn't so sure until I sat in one. I actually love the interior in mine now, and I was dead set on buying a car with leather when I was looking.

Just saying, as you're more likely to get one for $24-25k without leather, especially as the dealers are more likely to have ones without leather sitting around that they will be trying to push out.

TBH, I personally hate the cloth interior that VW provides in the MKV Polo and Golf. I really hate the light grey color, unlike the MKVI which now has a much darker color on the seats.

I definitely wouldn't get the cloth under any circumstances in a current gen Polo.

                                It's a small sacrifice

That said, it's always interesting when you forget to turn the heaters off in the seats then start to wonder why on earth your backside is cooking
