  • Downpipe Fabrication - Sydney

I'm contemplating getting a downpipe fabricated in Sydney.

Wanting to not spend too much, but of course want a quality product.

Can anyone recommend a company in Sydney for this work?

If I get the downpipe installed without changing the APRV2 tune, will I get the full effect of the change? On that, if I change the downpipe to a custom part, is the APR re-reflash still free?

the reflash is still free as far as I know

The dealer may charge you for the time to install the flash, after all you didn't buy any hardware from them or get any work done. Allow around 30 minutes to do the work.

          Quick call around this morning.

Rough quotes of $300 and $800 for the work.

Can anyone assist me in what i should be asking for specifically?

I believe a 3" section is the way to go, one place recommended a flex-pipe, I'm a bit lost as to if its required. Stainless the way to go?

A quick question, do we need to do another reflash (something that Mk5 GTI needs to flash exhaust test file) to get rid of the Engine Check light once having downpipe installed?

i remember reading somewhere that if you have V2 then get a DP there is no more software needed.

however V1 is a different story i think.

Guys, you do not need any new software with a down pipe, what you may require depending on the cat you choose to run with it might be a flash to override an issue with some cats and the o2 sensor. V1 vs V2 as has been shown by dyno days 1/4 miles etc only makes a difference on where power is delivered not on how much power.

Re flash is only needed for a high flow cat, code logged is for cat efficiency does not effect engine performance.

Be careful with who fabricates it..

I had two APR down pipes on mine and one of them had a real ugly resonance in it. The other has less resonance but still not perfect.

So if the APR unit gets resonance, imagine what back yard georges dump pipe would sound like.

I've PM'd him, hoping he will get back to me shortly.

If I can't arrange to get it done before track day on the 14th, don't think it will happen...

I'd pretty much given up on getting more power out of the Polo, may be my last mod for a while (yeah, yeah, thought that after the chip and springs).

i think its just the material APR used is thinner than the stock downpipe and cat. I read somewhere the stock cat acts as a resonator as well. Maybe the APR unit doesnt.

But the APR unit gives us better overall power and torque

Have the car booked in for next Tuesday.

I'm a little lost as to the difference between the 2.5" and 3". Wanted to go 1/2 way with 2.75", but don't get much support from the fabricators. Going to be quite a bit cheaper to go with 2.5 or 3.

I believe the stock is 2.25, and as I'm keeping the Cat and rear exhaust section with stock Muffler, which is a better option?

i know there is a lot of opinion, but I don't understand the physics behind the 3" being worse than the 2.5". Anyone with some real experience here comment?

                              2.5" dump pipe installed.

                              pulls a little harder

sounds a little more gruff (deeper tone at lower revs).

Have not had a chance to see what happens at the top of the rev range...
