Hi guys. Well since I just bought an sti I can tell you that in a straight line there is not a lot of difference between the stock sti and the tuned polo. Handling and braking, they are worlds apart. It is like the old saying chalk and cheese. Both cars where built to do different things. Drag racing is not really the foray of the sti. But good to see the little pog keeping them honest.

Easy Tiger, I mean OK you have proved with evidence that the polo beat a WRX. He looks foolish for his stupid comment as it has no evidence, however you then go and ruin it by making comments about him / her.
I am not defending him or you, I just read the posts and whilst the topic is interesting, his comments and yours were not helpful to anyone.
Keep to the facts and we will all be better informed...
and enjoy the forum more.

Wow video is impressive but as some of you have mentioned, its all about the driver as well. Obviously proves you can drive mate!!!
Its not that I dont believe the TLGP (not such a good idea!
) claims of beating Falcon GT's/STI's/EVO's etc however the plain truth is they are a hell of a lot quicker cars than a Polo GTI, you guys must just be awesome drivers!

Personally I find it hard to believe that even simply a chipped polo with no other mods can beat an Evo or Stias they are 4wd cars and are able to put all their power to the ground whereas Polo's are front wheel drive that struggles to put all that power to the ground. I gone up against an EVO 9 in the past and I gotta say, even if we might catch up for a short period of time, we do eventually get blown off. However it might just be me being a crap driver though
But to those who really have somehow beat such cars then
casue you must be awesome drivers.

You mentioned if you have nothing positive to say, don't say it. Maybe you should read the post you just made.
Pull your head in or the Polo mod team and us will come down on you hard as that is the kind of rubbish we don't want., maybe you should go hang on vortex if you want to behave like this?? Well done for your driving efforts.
I personally don't like the 'what my car beat' threads, as i feel it creates an atmosphere of POG owners thinking we are bigger than we are.
I know my car could not beat a EVO/WRX/FTP with a few $K in mods and a good driver, but then again, that was not my goal.
If you can with yours, well done.

I think off the line a good driver in a Sti/EVO would beat a good driver in a Polo Gti. Thats not a bad thing, an STi/Evo would beat most cars off the line.
Rolling start, a chipped Polo would be competitive with a stock Sti or evo but as much as one decent mod to those cars and it should swing the scales in favour of the Sti/Evo.
I think its a fine achievement to be competitive in gear acceleration to these cars. Win by a whisker or lose by a whisker, still pretty quick.
Ive learnt to be happy with what it can do rather than crying about what It cant doLast edited by Petrina Polo; 03-08-2009, 11:07 AM.

I too agree given both drivers able to maximise the potential of the cars (i.e. chipped Polo and stock STi), STi will come out on top on drag but I'm happy what I've, a unassuming ride than can keep these performance cars honest on straight line, adequate handling and best of all not all hot hatch that can top 250km/h. I'll be going back to Sepang and have another go, this time Federal 595 RSR equipped, Contis just suck on tight twisties.

I agree with many of you people in saying that a STI/EVO can kill a pog any day. BUT with the right drivers the pog can still put up a good fight.
When down at wakie the mrt sti was crazy slow but another time there was a couple of full tune wrx and evos and theres no way anything could catch them on that day. Even at eastern creek the STI and EVO had to run in a different class because they were too fast. They were up against semi-race cars and still had a good go at them, whereas i had to chase down xr6, xr8, SS, etc. I was still able to have a few good battles with Clio sports, MX-5 and a couple of sportivos.
