  • Groaning/Squeaking Suspension

    Hey Everyone,

I recently had the Eibach Pro Kit fitted to my GTI, and Ive just started noticing that the front left suspension groans/squeaks when travelling slow.. mainly when pitching (accel from a red light for instance) or turning at low speed (say reversing off the drive way).

It has been raining alot.. dunno if that contributes to it (perhaps the stupidest thing i could say? haha)

Just wonderding if anyone has a quick diagnosis for the situation?
I got the springs installed at a reputable suspension place here in Perth also.

Im coming up to 22,500kms, and am going to have my wheels rotated and oil changed... and was going to bring the issue up, but thought perhaps I should ask here so i have some knowledge first....

    Thanks in advance peoples.

T_go have you upgraded the front sway bar and or larger dump pipe? The reason I ask is I have the same noise and JMac is pretty certain its the front swaybar bushes drying out due to heat from the dump pipe. That being larger dump pipe and thick sway bar = the 2 parts alot closer cause easier heat transfer.

This is your front sway bar links groaning under the increased pressure of the lowered car suspention. When I loweredmy car on my Weitec springs, I cot the same problem. You can replace them with adjustable sway bar links, or you can buy Frod Mondeo(95-2000 model I believe) links on Ebay.

Is it definitely coming from your suspension?

I had a noise I assumed was in the dash / door, fixed by VW but apparantly was the radiator mounts...

I had this issue after installing my Bilstein/H&R combo and it turned out to be that the top mount bolts had loosend a fraction. I had to have them retightened twice in the end. I had Pedders Morley intall mine and I couldn't recommend them enough.

Ive had this issues recently, when driving slow there is like a squeak sound coming from m front tyre.. Turned out it was the backing plate for the brake pad that somehow got a bit offset and was touching against rotor/disk
Didn’t damage anything but the weird thing is that I changed pads a few months ago, and problem only arose in past few weeks

It would seem that there is obviously several places where these creaks & squeaks seem to eminate from. I guess a mechanic is the best bet for a proper diagnosis.

I get a squeak/rattle that seems to be coming from the rear right wheel area, maybe spring or suspension thing. But it comes and goes, depending on ambient temperature. The colder it is, the more obvious the noise.

I've recently had my radiator and front brake rotars replaced. Ever since, I've been hearing a squeak (only when the engine is warm) coming from the front of my car somewhere.

VW diagnosed it as the brake rotors (being after market), but I had them replaced with originals yesterday. I can still hear a squeak, usually when I de-cellerate in high gear, turning slightly left or right or going over small dips on a road. I'm thinking it must be related to when I had my radiator replaced and after reading your post, the radiator mounts. Was this the same problem you had?
