    Pros

    - Respectable performance, keeps everyone else honest.
    - Newish year.. Most are only 1-3 yrs old so minimal component failure
    - tried and tested 1.8T motor
    - Excellent insurance price considering performance

    Cons

    - A bit small
    - Lacking a little street cred
    - When new model comes out will lose more street cred.

Overall, there is nothing better for the price. I could sell mine but for similar money, might find a car better in a straight line but it will probably have triple the km, triple the age and give other problems.

for all the polo's anonimity - on a regular basis I have someone come up to me in a car park asking how much fun it is to drive etc.
And at a random breath test, as i was blowing into the bag a couple of the other coppers strolled over to take a squiz at it and make positive noises about it.

So there are plenty of people out there that know what they are and what they can do - but the good part is they dont draw any unwanted attention....no one ever tries to race me at traffic lights, the copper don't pull you over for safety inspections, etc

Street cred - perhaps not (but then again I am an old bugga so my street cred is long gone... lol) but fun to drive without the hassles you get with other cars....skylines, commonhwhores, xr6/8

I think generally in Oz... and i say generally... any car 2.0L and under is for girls. just the way it is.

The dubs are where it's at!
(+ any other hot-hatch worth anything...) but i am biased having never driven a sedan before.

Same here. To be honest, at the beginning, I didn't know what to think -- are they serious or having a go?

I bought it because it was exactly want I wanted. Small car with a bit of go. The fact that I now receive a few comments on certainly makes you feel good, but at the same time, I wouldn't care if they said nothing at all.

Petrina, I still don't see why you feel the need to compare pros and cons in this thread as if somehow we all have our heads in the sand. Yes, there are negatives, but that's going to be the same with any damn car you pick. The point is, to pick the car that has the least amount of cons FOR YOU!!!

You list cons such as "a bit small" -- that definitely wasn't on my list of cons since I wanted a small car. Again, street cred is not a con because it's not something I care about.

Bottom line is, pros and cons are subjective and I think I'm going to stop replying to your threads as I'm beginning to smell a troll.

I'm glad this thread is coming to an end, I drive exotic cars all day, I'm one of a few in aus to drive the Veyron we had here for the f1 last year. R8's Lambo's Ferrari's Lotus's Porche's Bentley's all VW products and many many more including Jap crap and Aussie V8's. All I have to say is because of my company car I look forward to weekends when I can get the Polo out. The Polo is what it is and I don't expect anymore, to me it's perfect!!

I for one would put the lack of "street cred" under PRO and not a CON. Who cares what others think? Unless I suddenly have an urge to pick up the fully sik boys in the car next to me at the lights whom I'll probably never see again for the rest of my life

Please stop replying if all you can do is try and insult people and get into a scrap into the gutter.

                I have legitimate questions.

Yes believe it or not I work for a prestige dealership we sell Porsche, Aston, Bentley, Rolls, Lotus, Range Rover. Have been in the trade for 20 years and I can't wait to jump in my Polo every weekend. No Aussie V8 or Turbo 6 will have anywhere near the street cred your looking for??? Unless you want to hang around Mc Donald car parks???

Even though it was all true.
But yes, in the interest of civility... probably a good move.

Petrina Polo, I haven't read the full thread, just your first post. I am now 100% convinced you have bought the wrong car. All you've done since come here is bag it out And thats fine, I guess, but why keep it if you don't like it's lack of power or it's 0 street cred? Why not go and buy a Astra VXR or an Orange XR5?

Nice one man. (On both the job & your love of the Polo).

Street cred is something i've never had nor cared about. & by getting the Polo, I expected nothing to change. I loved how there weren't many Polos on the roads (though in saying that, I spotted more today than any other day) & how it's a quiet achiever with a fun, reliable engine. The fact it's a safe car to drive with a classy interior & decent value for both RRP & insurance rounded off the best package for the money I could spend.

I've only done ~1200km, but I feel the cars fun factor is increasing the more I wear it in & still look forward to driving it any chance I get.
