  • Street Cred and Polo GTi

I acknowledge the Polo Gti is never going to have the street presence of a Chrysler 300C, but what can we do to give it a little more street cred.

Its a car that many people dont know much about, when they see it at the lights or parked somewhere, people scoff at any suggestion it may have decent performance.

So what can we do to lift the presence or street cred of the Polo Gti.

    Wheels?

rally wide body kit, 17x10 rear with 17x9 fronts, badgeless all-round, illegal dark tint..... Probably as menacing as it will ever get and it will still be called a girls car by anyone that hasn't been in it and some that have. Polo will never have street cred, hell even the golf doesn’t only VW cars that do are the R series cars everything else is considered girlie.

Who needs street cred when you drive a VW?

You're a VDubber thats all that matters!

Honestly though, wheels and maybe these to make it looks a bit meaner?

I bought it EXACTLY because of its anonymity, and in a neutral silver as well so it totally blends in.

Twice as fun when you blow off the uninitiated who dismisses your car as easybeat. Don't mod the exterior i beg of you - we don't need the "street cred"!

I'm enjoying the anonymity of the Polo Gti as it allows plenty of fun whilst flying below the cops radar with minimal unwanted attention. But very amusing to see the looks of those faces who think we are easy targets to outrun and end up getting the shock and embarrassment of a lifetime Gives me a great smile every time.

That's the beauty of the Polo GTI. For those who don't know about them, it looks like another beater. But again, it's never been (at least for me) about impressing anyone else, but rather how much damn fun I have in it!

I can't believe that even after a year of ownership, I STILL make up excuses to take it for a spin.

Only wish it didn't eat front tyres, but maybe that's just my driving.

I always liked driving the polo Gti coz ppl thought it was a mkv golf gti lol. Who cares really, it's a 20k car, late model car that looks good and goes well. Stuff the 300c. Ppl who drive them think they're pimpin in a phantom wannabe made by Chrysler. Only one person I know who drives one is a modest guy, the others think they are better than everyone else

I once sold a phone to a guy who owns one on 24s. I drove to his house and after he paid for the phone he said to me "so u wanna see my car?" I said ok just so it didn't feel awkward. I didn't really have much to say but he just stood there telling me how sick a car it was.

                    :/

Damn dude, I think you 100% bought the wrong car. Think? Screw that, I KNOW. LOL! Ridiculous.
If you wanted a mix of German luxury (lets be honest, you would've bought a Mazda 2 or equivalent class competitors right? just putting it out there), bit of speed when you want it, STREET credit maybe you should have got an .:R or S Audi.
I think an S5/R36 would've been perfect, then again the budget is like 5-6x a polo gti.

build the engine so it does rolling burnouts at 100

From my experience most people call it a Golf !! To a lot of people they see the VW and GTI badge, the calipers and wheels and go "what's the Golf like to drive" ...

It's only the car nuts (and Dubbers) who know it's a Polo ... ffs, there are no Polo badges on it.

I liked that it was a sleeper. You mention your previous cars in another post (WRX, XR6) ... you must have loved the attention. I went through 13yrs with a Swift GTi ... the attention is fun when you are young and enjoy hooning off at the lights and hanging around Maccas at night like a lout, but god I was so over that by the time I sold it. Tired of bogans wanting to race all the time, police pulling me over because it was low, loud, etc. It seems this is what you want to go back to, sell the Polo, get a bogan car and then you will get street cred.

The majority of aussies (yes I'm about to generalise!) like their bogan Falcons and Commodores all hotted up, the next grp would be the WRX and EVO brigades, then the ricers ... you have the wrong car in terms of model and manufacturer if you want street cred in this country.

Sell it Petrina, endless threads like this show that you are in the wrong make and model of car.

I have to agree with this... You have plain and simple bought the wrong car for your motoring lifestyle. Sell the car and move on, or let it go...The guys on here love their repective Polo's for different reasons, but you seem to be looking for reasons to get rid of it. It might be time to jump on that bus back to Boganville.

                              Agreed.

You want street cred, get a rwd / awd v8 or twin turbo monster.

The polo is refined (on a budget), not a head turner...

And if you did turn heads in it, chances are you are doing something stupid or you Riced it.
