If you have a look at the rest of my post which clearly indicates the rest of the golf range. If you are going to sleep at night alot better with a 1.8T bagde on the back of your car by all means be a tosspot!

Maybe you should get the number plates PLO18T aswell!

I thought downsizing engines, emissions and fuel consumption was a big selling point for modern car manufacturers. Haven't you heard of global warming and the forthcoming carbon emissions trading scheme? These companies are desperate to present an environmentally friendly image and small engines are a part of that.

Only dinosaurs are bragging about the size of their engines.

But they still have to compare their car against competitiors..

Some customers see 1.8 on corolla and 1.4 on Golf, they might go corolla. (until they drive one)

But the perception is there that small motors = no torque.

and stuck another badge on this one.

                and this car?

                and this car?

But according to you only the top models dont have badges, like Polo Gti and Golf Gti. Because they are better than these cars as per links.
You're an idiot, I mean the top of the line models in their categories, ie. someone who is looking at an A8 isn't going to be considering a Polo. Of course an A8 is a bigger, more powerful car and costs more, does that make it a better car? Different discussion for a different thread, different cars for different jobs. How do you like them apples

Ahhh silly me I forgot, the S8 also doesn't have badges either. If those A8's in those links didn't have the badges, how would you know what the engine was? The A8 in wikipedia has 10 different engine variants that can be used in an A8, the S8 has only one engine that can be spec'd.

Petrina let me ask you, when you spec'd your Polo GTI (not sure if you bought new or not) did you get a choice to have a 2.0T?

You can go and take a picture of your mates S5 with the displacement badges if you like, doesn't prove that it came like that

no no please, keep responding. I'm enjoying ripping your argument to shreds.

Will just skim over the fact that the 1.4L twincharged won engine of the year last year and produces more power then your 1.8T.

That perception is by the die-hard dinosaurs and bogans in Australia is the reason that most Euro manufacturers do not advertise their engine capacities.

                      VW - Golf, Polo, Jetta
                      Peugeot - 207, 308
                      Renault - Clio, Punto
                      Fiat - Punto, Ritmo
                      Citroen - C2, C3, C4

None of them make any sort of noise about capacity, they are not aiming at the "mine is bigger than yours" market. They push the line of Euro design and build, economy, enviro benefits, etc. When they do talk about power even then they don't push the capacity thing or number of cylinders/valves like the locals and japs do. If VW behaved like Toyota or Suzuki we'd have "Twin Cam - 20 valve - Turbo" stickers on the sides of our car !!

Ford are supposedly downsizing the Falcon to a 4 cylinder ... I think you will find they will push the technology benefits (enviro, economy, etc) rather than the fact it is a 2+ Litre 4 cylinder engine verse a Commodore with a 3+ Litre V6.

There seems to be a large majority of people who don't care if the Polo has the displacement badge on it and only 1 person who does. This person has since rectified the issue and now feels much better about himself. Lets leave it there and move on!!!!!!!

Is that an M1 Abrams ?

I think Petrina will like the engine out of that : 1500 hp (1119 kW) Honeywell AGT 1500 gas turbine.

However, he'd still need to put a badge on it though in case people didn't realise it had a BIG engine.

YES absolutely its a better car. There goes your swiss cheese theory about only the best top of the line models not having displacement badges on them.

So genius, why do some cars have displacement badges on them? doesnt the owner know whats under the hood? Do other drivers second guess if they have the grunt to overtake you? Does he say 1.6, I should be able to get him up hill?

Why do cars have badged period?
