OK, this is always a good one for entertainment, puzzlement and just plain information.

Like all cars, the Polo has its own set of noises. What are they?

For example, my GTI makes a strange whirring noise when I open the driver's door after it's been shut for a while. What's that? And what's your quirky noise question?

Later dubs prime the fuel pump on opening the door, that could be it.

Ya, now I know what that noise is. I reckon you've hit the nail on the head. Thank you.

Hmm, sounds more like it's from somewhere under the dash, rather than behind the driver's seat. Doesn't always happen, either

edit: no, I just checked, using the handy plastic tube stethascope, and determined the sound does come from the rear RHS, which confirms the in-tank fuel pump

What about the electric motor thats running under the bonnet when you turn the car off after a drive?

I think that's an electric water pump that continues to circulate coolant through the block after the engine has stopped

Fair enough. I thought it may be an electric oil pump for the turbo but your probably right.

It could also be the fans cooling down the engine. My golf does that usually after a hard or lengthy drive

GTI polos do have a water pump that continues to circulate water after you turn the car off. Part of the reason why you don't need a turbo timer in a GTI...

                            Cheers!
