Originally posted by jesum View Postfolks, i just had the bushes installed today and i notice the car tends to drift to the left and right randomly along the road. this is only evident at high speeds (>80km/h or thereabouts). it feels weird. the steering position does not change but the car's direction does! feels like the wheels are turning independently of steering input! it's not by a lot but it is enough for me to notice it. the car drifts by maybe half a foot?
did the installer mess up the lower arm assembly when they put it back on? camber needs adjustment? alignment? tyre pressure?? any ideas?
also, torque steer seems quite a bit more pronounced.
This tramlining & extra torque steer will be more than likely be due to the brackets that hold the sub-frame to the chassis. There are two 12mm. bolts on each side which sit in 18mm. holes, if they are loose or given a hard time ,,,,,,,,, they move changing the steering set-up quite a bit, mine are moving a lot even when dead tight. This problem is not only with the Polo, but with most of the VW vehicles. To tell if you have this problem, you can see from underneath where the two bolts to the chassis are & if you can see shinny metal around the bolt head, thats means its moving.
Just today I have an engineer with a near finished product in Tweed Heads after spending a week & a half designing a new set-up to cure this factor, its looking real good & I personaly think is a must mod.
I'll be doing a new thread with pics on this matter in the near future along with pricing under the POLO section to start with.
P.S. Just think about it, how can two 12mm. bolts in 18mm. holes hold the front-end in place, dammed if I know what VW are thinking. Same goes for the strut tops you'll find 8mm bolts in 10mm holes, me fix with 10mm studs.Hooroo.

Yeah they have always done this, MK3 Vr6 control arm bush seciring bolt is an M10 in a M12 hole. Workshop manual also states the fact, just incase the poor mechanic gets a fright and thinks he has pressed in the wrong bushes, sure had me thinking when i did my forst set MANY moons ago.
