  • Standard Gti tyres 53500km and counting

Started looking around a replacement for the standard Gti tyres (Continentals) - but still somehow have at least 10k left in the current ones!!
Is there really anything as good as these Continental (or better) for grip in wet/dry that last this long ?....surely not ?

I have never had 'performance' tyres last this long...only rotated twice too (and one of those times was today...at 53500kms !)

Did I just get a good set ?

I think you did...My fronts only lasted just over 10,000km. I now have semi Slicks that look at lasting 45,000km...Go figure.

My CS2's made it to 50,000km or so from memory.

I have Pilot Preceda 2's now, but they aren't lasting as long. I think the problem is now the car is tuned, it is a bit harder on the tyres than before.

if you dont mind devastating road noise, i'd say upgrade to the conti eco tourers.... hahahahahaha j/k

Apparently these conti's compount become hard after 2 years or so of used n then shown a very very hard wearing layer of rubber. Once they over heated by a hard use, its become harder hence wearing less, not much grip at these stage though, and very very loud.... 53kms huh? I just hit 60kms on original conti... lol, and don't say i don't drive hard.... but that including rotating the spare in the cycle as well.

^ 53,000km from a single set of tyres? seriously! no way in the world a tyre could last that long. A set should last 20,000km max (I know now you can buy tyres with double the tread thickness, for sure these will last much longer than regulars), as what GTIJNR said, the compound of the tyre would set harder than it used to be after years gone by.

You dont have a chip then.

My tyres are fried up everyday. 20,000km and tyres on the way out.

I bought new wheels and tyres.

50K km's on a set of tyres is dangerous IMO.

I'd say people getting 10,000km from street driving only is more dangerous. lol.

I'd have thought 35,000+ from street driving on the conti's should be realistic. 20-25,000 for the enthusiastic weekend warrior.

I got 25,000km from a set of yoko C-drives inclusive of 8 trackdays and a few skid pans. I was chuffed, so it can be done. I'm expecting 30km+ from my conti's with a handful of trackdays under its belt, I'm generally a grandpa on the street though.

Yup +1 as well. 50,000km? I think I got bout 20K-25K km from my conti's.

Also, after 105,000km, I needed my 4th set of tyres (3 of which has been Preceda 2's). It has nothing to do with chipped or not, it has to do with how you drive it and thats it (and I've done a handful of track days).
