  • Muffler Tip for GTI

I'm interested in changing the muffler Tip's on the GTI, wondering if I can pick something off ebay and get someone to do some welding.

Is there anything I need to keep in mind? Is there a maximum size that will fit the stock muffler - eg 2"?

Are there any regulations / issues with size, length, etc?

Do I need to buy a set (2 combined) or can I buy 2 separate ones?

Mate if ur just after TIP's shoot along to ur local exhaust place...there will be plenty of options...Tips are generally cheap and they'll be able to size them up and weld them on.

Buy a stainless steel tip or else the normal chrome ones will erode.

I have a pretty big single 4 inch tip. Lets people know theres something going on with my Gti, a little more aggresive than stock. But i also have a full stainless system.

If I didnt change my system i would be content with the stock twin tips..

Took the guy over an hour, the stock pipes were too close together.

Happy with the look, seems to fit a little better without looking modded.

Fair enough you are happy with the look - they look AWESOME!!!
Just the tips yeah? You didn't change the entire muffler?

No change to muffler, I didn't want to make it louder - just thought the stock tips looked a little small for the cutout in the rear lip.

These tips (off the shelf at Midas) have a muffling mechanism (you can just see the small perforations in the inner barrel) similar to a straight through muffler. If anything probably make the car quieter. Didn't notice any change to the power (not that i expected to).

These are 3" stainless tips, stock was about 2.5" chrome

Looks nice. Thats probably the ideal tip for these cars. Like stock but better.

Not a great before and after, but you get the idea.

I didn't notice how undersized they were until I saw a post recently by someone else who had done this.

Cant find the post... Credit to someone else for the good idea.

                    too much

The labor was about $50, the pipes were expensive as I was impatient and they didn't have anything else that suited.

The brand is Bluediamond, had a brochure, but couldn't find a website.

Worth a look on ebay as well.
