Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • shock help!

    Hey guys,

Maybe more of a general question, not specific to polos.

A few months ago, I took the car in because it was creaking on the rear right and they "replaced" the shock. When they gave the car back it was creaking on the left. They said they are now going to replace the left shock.

The thing is, my car only has done 10000kms so I thought it was a bit funny that both shocks have been worn. I don't drive it hard and have not tracked it.

How do I know if they have replaced the worn shock with a new one?

    Thanks in advance guys

No names please , but it went to a dealer yes?????? If yes this can happen during warranty, i changed lots of top mounts in warranty periods, on a wide range of VW. Yeah things can be faulty early in the piece, warranty "should iron out these issues" but to conclude shocks should last a LONG time , a bit less if you drive up and down a farm road every day.
    Cheers

Yep it was a dealer. Any ideas guys on how to make sure it gets done this time without accusing them?

just put a small mark (white out) on the shock before you take in.
