  • Front seat construction

    Hi All,

Just wondering if any of you have pulled your front seats apart, or otherwise know how they're constructed?

Reason I ask is that I pinched a nerve in my leg a few weeks ago, and while that has since sorted itself, my seat has been uncomfortable since. I'm not sure if something has broken or collapsed inside the seat base or if it's all just my imagination. Feels like it's sagging in the middle.

I pulled the seat out and had a look underneath, but all I could see was a steel plate that forms the base and some foam where the plate had holes in it. Couldn't see springs etc that might have broken.

So, does anyone know if there are springs/ tendons or similar in the seat base?

    Cheers,

    -Phil.

P.S. did a search on seat and came up with millions of threads about air intakes .

All the seat I have had apart in the past have just been a steel bucket with lightening holes in and a big lump of high density foam. The side bits on MK2 GTI seats have an extra bit.

Have a look on here to see an exploded view of the seats.

You need to register but it's free.

Thanks Gavin, found the cutaway. That's exactly what I was after.

So it is my imagination (or else I need a new piece of foam)

I'll keep that site in mind.

      Cheers.
