Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. • Anyone else underwhelmed by pod filters?

    Hey Guys,

I chucked a pod filter on my polo today for fun (i was bored)! After driving around the block a couple of times I decided i didnt like the sound and promptly returned it...

My car is factory (Getting chipped soon), but i found the intake noise to be less pleasing than with the airbox.

Has anyone else had this experience?

Okay this may sound weird. Most people will understand why i ask this.

How often do you rev your car past say 4000rpm?

            Every time I drive it.

I usually change between 2 and 3k for economy, but the my tune is awesome above 3k. So its great to spin it around to 5k or so getting onto the freeway.

What i was more getting at. Was unless your more the "spirited" driving. You're not really going to care for induction noise.

I usually shift at around 5200, the torque rolls off after that so I dont see the point going higher (stock car).

I dunno, I was just underwhelmed... In fairness I really love the sound of the car stock.

Ok, so after fitting a forge fmic and getting it chipped, I decided it was time to play around with a pod filter again.

I fitted another cone filter. I've tried several different shapes, and found that the filters that have the second cone going into the filter sound the best by far.

I was presently surprised to find that the car performed MUCH better and was much smoother. The factory intake is just way to small for an upgraded car.

I think they go better with pod filter..

Just fit them in your stock airbox without lid.. a 90 degree bend and thats it, stright of the maf..

Its better than the panel setup.

Plus in the airbox the induction roar is more muffled..

It's very easy. I have some for sale in this thread for those interested:

I also have the hoses required to put the pod into the airbox.
                        Cheers,

                        John
