heh.
I'm really contemplating holding off buying the current shape Polo GTI, if the new one will come out mid-2009 for the same price....?MY16 MK7 Golf GTI

Not for me, don't really like the newest Golf either...
Not sure if you got the new 1.4T (GTI) what the tuning capacity would be from a 1.4
Don't think its going to pull an extra 15+ Kw just with an ECU flash to keep up...
Wait and see what the real specs end up being...

well, for me, when i saw the initial shots of the interior, i was pretty impressed- its NOICE!
the new diesels are commonrail, too! but then, they have a DPF (diesel particulate filter) and my understanding is that these hamper performance mod capabilities.
i think rather than move into the new tdi, i'll just work on my current one (next, suspension. after that, injectors!!!).
that should have me scooting along quite nicely, in my hairdresser's car.

yeah, is that the deal- smaller capacity turbo engines that are more powerful out of the showroom, but less scope for improvement?
the 1.6lt 66 kw polo tdi sounds awesome from an emissions and fuel consumption standpoint, but i dont see it kicking out 150hp and 330nm with a simple remap, especially not with a DPF.
dont get me wrong, a panoramic sunroof and better handling as a result of it being a bigger car, would be good, but i think i'd prefer mine, to be honest.
found this:
Petrol Engines
1.2-litre 60hp (5-speed manual)
1.2-litre 70hp (5-speed manual)
1.4-litre 85hp (5-spd man or 7-spd DSG)
1.2-litre TSI 105hp (6-speed manual)
Diesel engines:
1.6-litre TDI 75hp (5-speed manual)
1.6-litre TDI 90hp (5-speed manual)
do you gti boys reckon you'd live with sacrificing 45hp straight off the bat? lol.
i like the fact that they're aiming to get more power out of smaller engines- its a good thing. but i think we're all lucky in that our tried and true (in both cases) 1.8t and 1.9tdi engines have a wealth of mods that can make them fast cars (by fast in a diesel context, i mean there are people on the club with mk4 1.9tdi boras with stock turbo, remap, injectors and exhaust, as well as race pipes and egr delete and all the -ectomys etc etc who apparently can keep up with a porsche 911 from 55-130mph. in my books, thats fast). i'll keep mine, thanks. at any rate, if i really wanted a bigger car, like the next gen polo, i'd just trade mine in for a mk5 2.0 tdi and chip it.Last edited by Buller_Scott; 14-04-2009, 03:34 AM.

If I was in your shoes, I'd be looking to get the best possible price for the current model.
Maybe it's because I've been bitten so many times in the past by being an early adopter, but I never buy "Revision A" anymore. And when it comes to a car, even more so. I do NOT want to be running back to the dealer with little issues that they're unable to fix because the simple don't know enough about it yet -- headaches.
As good as it looks (and it does look amazing and I'm sure I'll get one at some point) no one knows at this point how good/bad it is in comparison to the current model. And I don't want to be the guinea pig.
But that's just me.sigpic

I have already gotten insurance & service quotes & figured what I want with the current model, so I know what to haggle for & seeing as the current model has had the same RRP for ~3 years & is being replaced this year (maybe not with a new GTI, but the lower models at least), I should be able to knock a bit off the price....
edit...
I've sent VW an email asking for info on the new model. Hope they reply soon..MY16 MK7 Golf GTI
